Mustang MPG
Mustang MPG
I'm new to this site and I figured this would help me find the right mustang. Does any one out there know which mustang has good MPG of the 05-08. I don't want anything newer or older than those years.
For reference, I average 17-18 mpg to a tank in my 06 GT with 3.73 gears and what I'd call a moderately aggressive driving style. I've gotten as good as 22 average to a tank when my commute was all highway.
As far as 05-09 goes, the engine really won't make much of a difference in gas mileage. They're both close enough that it really just comes down to your driving style. I have a 2005 V6, and I get 30mpg (at best) on the highway. Usually mid/upper 20's though. As far as in town driving goes, I get about 13-15mpg with an extremely aggressive driving style. I might be able to get to 20mpg, if I tone it down a bit.

Just for your info we took a 2,000 miles vacation this past summer with mostly highway miles, yet some heavy stop and go in the NYC area. We averaged 24 mpg using mid-grade fuel in our 4.6L 2007 GT/CS. Certainly not outstanding but how much more would a 6 cylinder have actually saved us? Even if we could get 30 mpg in a 6 cylinder vs our 24 mpg that would amount to about an extra 17 gallons for those 2,000 miles. Even at $4 a gallon that amounts to just $68. To me, I would much rather drive around in my GT for that kind of minimal price spread. It's up to you and what you are looking for.

My 2007 V6 auto gets an avg city/hwy 19 mpg with mostly city driving. Reverse that and I get about 22 mpg. Long highway drives I get about 27 mpg. Again, like was said, it depends on driving style. Have fun.
