I highly doubt it, but I'll check. The goal of the hardcore Mustang showcar owner is to earn grille medallions from the MCA based on points accumulated by placing well at national Mustang shows. Winning at a Grand National is worth more points than winning at a national show, so those guys aren't interested in risking damage on a track.

Having said that, there is a large contingient of Mustang owners who jump at every opportunity to get their ponycars on a sanctioned track.

Amen. And I think Barbers was proof of that.

Nope, but there used to be...

Not absolutely sure what caused this one to meet its demise, but you can bet apathy was part of the equation. Don't let it happen anymore. When people start building houses next to racetracks and complaining about the noise - tell them the track was there before they were.

I really wish that the MCA would pick a spot for the NE part of the Country that was nearer to the ocean. I know they had one in Erie in August, but for me, living in PA, it would have still been an 6.5 hour drive. These national meets are just too far for me to go to.

There is a dragstrip in Jackson, which is about 20 minutes from Augusta. The old Augusta Motor Speedway is still mostly intact, although it is nowhere in any condition to be used. It is a nice place to visit, though.

Yeah, imagine what it's like for us here in Denver! Oh well, this just gives me an excuse for a road trip.

For those of you who plan ahead, add one more to the list:

August 1 to 3, 2008 - Toronto, Ontario
Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association will be hosting the first MCA (inter)National Show outside continental U.S.

We look forward to everyone coming up to Canada, including Sherry (you will know who I mean if you have read Mustang Times)!

Heck yeah Tim!

I just found about this today and am already planning on it.

[from Ocala should only be about 8 hours so a few hours shorter than our Bama trip.... ]

We will be holding the show at Ford of Canada HQ in Oakville.

We will be needing lots of volunteers to help with the Show, so you are welcome to get involved.

Aug. 2008?

Hi mstang. Is that date correct? Aug. 2008? If so, that's a long ways away. Will it be posted on gtamc.com?

I agree with 05fordgt. Some Ontario, Michigan, New York, and Pensylvania dates would be great.

Yes the date is correct. As I said "for those of you who plan ahead..."
We are just in the initial planning stages now, so when we get the Show outline developed it will be posted EVERYWHERE, including gtamc.

There is mention of our Show in November Mustang Monthly NewsDesk section.

It will be a huge undertaking, so we will need involvement and help from GTAMC as well as DRCMC, NCM, SVTOA and all other Mustang enthusiasts in the area and beyond. We will need over 50 judges alone!

We are holding a planning meeting on Thursday November 2, 7:30pm at Ford HQ in Oakville, which will mostly be GHMA members, but anyone is welcome.

Unfortunately for 05fordgt, we are still a long drive from Phillidelphia. But worth it!

We're planning to tow our recently completed concours restored 64.5 Indy Pace car to OK, CA, and probably IL shows.
Making the road trips is half the fun, but this is the first time we'll be towing instead of driving.
Looking forward to attending more long distance shows.

PS...
If you want a great new track experience, plan to attend the SAAC convention in Utah next July 6-8 at the Miller Sports Park.
New track rated top in the country and not too far from the famous "Bonneville Salt Flats."
