So I'm cruising down the road in the right hand land (at the speed limit), on my way to Capital Raceway to do my speeding legally when a minivan comes up on my right. Being the nice person I am, I move over into the left hand lane to allow the minivan to merge. After merging, the van decides to pace me right in my blind spot. This was during rush hour traffic, and I'm in the left hand lane being tailgated. In order to get the guy off my butt and the minivan out of my blind spot, I sped up to get in front of the van. Wouldn't you know it, as I speed up, right around the bend there is a speed trap :bang: . Three cops with three cars already pulled over. They pegged me with their radar and flagged me over to the shoulder. I got a ticket for 72 in a 55 which, luckily, is only $75. I don't want this to go on my record so I'm going to my court date to explain my situation to the judge. Hopefully he/she will be understanding.

Good luck on that one, let us know how it goes. I don't think it will get you out of the ticket, with your story, but it may.

The judge will ask you if your car has a brake. Then when you say yes, he/she will tell you how you could just as easily slowed down to let the van get ahead compared to speeding up to get past it.

Good luck, though!

Do you have a radar detector? Mine has saved me in situations like that. Check out the valentine one. It won't keep you from getting a ticket, but it sure helps lower the percentages. If they got you with laser get a lidatek laser setup.

Do you get a point reduction if you mail the ticket in early?

Hey man, it sure sucks how you got that ticket. I was wondering if that $75 fee included court costs.

I recently got a ticket for an expired Inspecton Sticker (having a June sticker in July sure is a gamble) and the penalty for the expired sticker is $35, but after court costs and other fees it wound up being about $92!!!!!

I guess I'm still letting off some steam from that ticket. UUUGGGHHH!!!

May I recommend that following. Bob and I both own one. It's not perfect but probably would have gave you the heads up not to make the move yet.

You got ticketed for 30 in a 25??? Holy carp. I could see getting stopped going 30 in a 20mph school zone but that's crazy...

I know having my radar detector has probably made me more bold to driving fast then I normally would. Most of the time though I drive no much over the speed limit. I'm trying to do better on gas. There was this new orange Dodge Charger Daytona R/T that I gave the business too Saturday.....

Chris the best thing to say is you screwed up and you won't do it again. They don't want to hear you were pulling away from a tailgater, your mom was dying in the passenger seat, you had the location of Bin Laden. None of that will mean a hill of beans depending on the judge. If you've been a good boy for awhile you'll get a PBJ.

Yeah I got pulled over today too. Was running late for work due to horrible traffic (everybody heading to the beach) so I was going at a pretty good clip (about 80 in a 65) on a divided freeway. Local police coming the other way catches me red-handed. Luckily I was wearing my uniform so I explained that I was coming 60 miles to work and was running late. He told me he appreciated me being honest and gave me a warning. Surprising, since most police and sherrifs in Texas act like correctional officers are their idiot cousins and love giving us tickets.

Dont know about states, but here in canada the police have to show up if you challenge a ticket...and there's a good chance the officer wont show,in which case judge throws out ticket...

Radar Detectors are for losers! I ticket everyone I stop that has an Early Ticket Warning System even though I almost always give decent people a warning (there are more than enough bad people that deserve my attention... so I don't have to bother the decent people) If you want to break the law... be a man and take your punishment. I can't say that I always do the speed limit but I also never get pulled over because I use common sense when I'm over the limit.

Yes I have a shield but I actually drive more conservatively now that I am a cop than before I was.
