LS2 in 66

Hi all, I sold a 66 years ago and regret it so I’m closing in on another. It’s a beautifully restored 66 . New paint, custom interior just beautiful. It has one issue that is scaring me a tad. When he built the car he decided to put a LS2 From 2020 vette mated to a six speed trans.
How much work would it be to yank that out and go back to a ford driveline since I’m a ford “guy”? I’d assume that ls2 and trans could be sold to pay for the new ford drive line? Any thoughts on what this things is worth. Sure, it’s easy to get a value for a stock but I think the ls2 devalues

Not sure on the value but I bet it would be fun to drive a time or three with that ls in there.

Really? A GM engine in a Mustang? He couldn't find a decent Ford powerplant? Man!! I'm with ya. Yank that thing out and sell it for good $$$ to a GM guy.

Ok, first, I'm with the people goin' "SACRELIGE!" on this monstrosity.

*However*... it's an LS. This is a fantastic engine, and if it's already done right, *leave it in* and enjoy it. You will quickly become an LS guy too, in as much as this car is already done.

This is what I'd do. It'd hurt a little to do it, but again, it's already done, so all I have to do is enjoy it and maintain it, which with LS stuff is just stupid easy with the parts availability out there.

For what my opinion on the car's setup is worth, which isn't much methinks.

THAT said... Your question is how much work? Well, not much. You'd have to assess how they did the swap, of course, and if they cut stuff out to make the LS fit that would not allow the Ford setup to go back in, you'd have to remedy that. This is a straight forward physical problem on the face of it, and it will simply require the removal of the Vette stuff, assessment, patching as needed, then install your Ford setup as desired, and off you go.

However, there's also electronics/wiring to consider, and are you going to use EFI or Carb? All that would have to be figured out. And of course redo of the A/C if equipped, as well as power steering.

To sum up: It may be a weekend if you have the Ford stuff ready to "plug in", or it could be a weeks/months/years long project if they've mangled the car to do the LS.

I know there's LS swap kits out there for this, but what I don't know is what they all entail, and I'm bettin' they ain't bolt in.

And at the end of all this diatribe? It's your car, so... you do what you need to do, and that'll do. Hope this helps anyway, and good luck! Pics when you get a chance, I'd like to see how good they did or not. Welcome to the forums!

Blasphemy? YES, but . . . I'd probably leave it in, for a while at least, sounds like it could be a LOT of fun!

Or find one just the way you like it and get that one. Plenty of options out there.

If your having doubts about purchasing the "66" having an LS2 engine? Then just don't purchase it, to begin with.. Better off in just searching for a "66" which has the original or rebuilt Ford 289 engine..

LS2 was a 2005-07 Corvette engine. LT2 is the current C8 Vette engine.

I’m north of the border. Finding anything half decent is hard to find. I’m hoping to negotiate and get this car for a price that even with buying new driveline would be cheaper in the long run.

For comparison sake a 65/66 fast back in decent condition would be 70k plus or about 57k USD

If this "66" is what you really want and able to negotiate upon a price with the current owner? Then go for it

I go along with the others here. I would either live with it and enjoy it as it is. It is a conversation piece now for better or worse. Or I would find one out there that is ready to go or ready for rebuild with a proper Ford drive train. I am sure that there were plenty of alterations that were made to the engine compartment and engine electronics that would have to be undone. Who knows what nightmares you are going to run into.

The LS2 is not a bad engine...

I know this is not a 66, but still an interesting read...

That's an excellent point there. I'd still leave it though.
