Help me remember....

...the car from the late 60's or early 70's that needed to have its engine pulled to get to the last spark plug. I don't remember for sure, but I'm thinking it was something like the Boss 429. All I remember for sure was that they shoehorned a big block into a car and the owners had to either pull the engine or drill a hole in the inner fender well to get to the last spark plug.

So what year/make/model am I talking about? Was it even a Mustang?

I had a friend that had a 73 Pontiac Bonniville with a 455 motor. He couldn't ever get to the rear on either side. Power brake booster and A/C box were in the way. Usually had to diconnect exhaust and drop the crossmember to jack motor. A friend of his cut out fender well at 120,000 miles. back then we'd change plugs and points every 3-5,000 miles. Ah, the good ole days

Nobody knows the story I'm talking about? It definitely wasn't a 90's F-body or a 73 Pontiac. I remember it was a big deal when owners realized they weren't able to get the last spark plug out....

I thought it was a Firebird in the mid 70's, and a Buick as well. Can't think of the Buick now, some small one with a hatchback? I remember the story though

I believe the car was the 1975-80 Chevy Monza with 262, 305 or 350 V8. these cars were originally designed for GM's wankel rotary engine that was cancelled just prior to this car's introduction. the result was the piston engined versions including 4 cylinder, V6 and V8. On the V8 versions, the engine bay was so cramped one of the spark plugs could only be accessed through the driver's side wheel well by jacking up the engine. Frequently the spark plug was not accessed at all.

Okay, thanks, but still not the car that I was talking about. I remember for sure that it was a car from the late 60's or perhaps very early 70's that had a BIG BLOCK stuffed into it as an afterthought. I thought it might have been a Mustang, but I'm not sure anymore...

I had a 68 with a 428 CJ and it was a knuckle-buster to get a few of the plugs out but it was do able. I don't think it would have been the Boss 429 either, since this was a true hemi, the plugs are right on top in the middle of those huge valve covers. see this photo http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Boss_429.jpg

the later wedge engines like the 429CJ may have been the culprits but I have no experience with them.
