GT premium or GT500?
GT premium or GT500?
I can buy a loaded (everything but nav and glass roof basically) 2011 GT premium for ~$38,500 including taxes
OR
the dealer has a beautiful 2011 GT500 sitting on the show room floor which I can buy for $48,880 including taxes. (The tax on the car in my state [NY] is $3900) It's not a convertible but I want a hard top any way.
It seem like the bargain to be had here is the Snake.. but this will be my first Ford so I want to hear what do you guys think? Is this a better than average price that I shouldn't pass up? Or should I keep the 10k and go with the regular GT
Thanks guys

Hello
It really depends on you, what you want to do with the car. Theres a lot you can do with a GT to make it equivalent to a GT500, especially with the 10K you saved. If you not looking to modify then jump right into the GT500. You will have a beautiful car, with 550HP. If money is not the issue, then by all means take the plunge into the Shelby, I assure you that you will not be dissapointed you did. Good luck with the descion.
P.S: Don't forget pics!
Sorry I don't know anything price wise about the "deal" but if the Shelby is the color you wanted and you can afford the Shelby and all the attention you'll be getting with it, that would be a great buy for sure
A $10,000 price difference means a bargain?? For a 4 second time difference??:

$10,000 of mods on a GT would make you go faster than a stock GT500, no doubt. $10,000 mods on a GT500 will make you nip at a Z06.

if the money doesnt matter, then go with the GT500. yes you can drop 10K into the GT and make it just as fast. then you have a car just as fast, cost just as much with no warranty and you still just have a GT. Which isnt a bad thing by any means.
GT is a bit lighter, though, so for some purposes (road course) that does make a difference.
I wont be racing or anything, nor will I be modding the car. I like my extended warranty lol
Let me put it this way, is $48,880 out the door all fees and taxes included too good a price to pass up on that particular car? I have heard that most people pay closer to 60k which is what made me do a doubletake at this particular Shelby

I pulled the trigger on the 11' GT Premium today.
2011 Black GT Premium
Saddle interior
Security package
Stripe delete
$30,150 (before tax, title, license, doc fees, etc)
I found a dealer in NJ with this price, showed my dealer here in NY, and they matched it! Had to order from the factory to get what I wanted so it will be a few weeks, but I am excited!

As you can see in the posts above, I got the GT Premium.
I don't plan on ever modding this car it is just a daily driver to get me to work and back.
Modding is just not my thing, I left that back in my old import days lol

I would go GT and mod but that's just me I enjoy the "I made it this fast" feel. If you want a blank canvas to build the car the way you want it go GT. But if that's not your cup of tea and you share Carol Shelbys taste then go shelby. Its your car. Nobody hear but you should have any stake in it. Good luck and enjoy buying it. Its a great feeling when you first roll over the curb in a brand new stang!

I owned a supercharged (4.6 liter) 2003 Cobra. I NEVER got over that awful Tremec transmission. As a result, I sold the car. Recently, I drove 2007 and 2008 Shelby GT 500s, and they still had that awful Tremec transmission. The 2011 Shelby GT 500 has the same awful transmission, plus there are far fewer options to tweak it the way you want it.
MY solution is going to be to buy a GT Premium (as you say, about $38,500) and immediately install a Ford Performance supercharger, which will give either 525 hp or 624 hp, depending on my final choice. I will have EXACTLY the car I want, looking exactly the way I want, and it will be superior to the GT 500. Have you ever noticed that with all that hp, how tepid the Shelby's acceleration numbers are? It's slower by far than a Z06, and probably by a tenth or two (0-60) to the CTS-V and even the base Corvette. It barely edges the GT by a couple tenths. If the GT is a knife, the Shelby is a bludgeoning club. Plus, what are you going to do with those looks? Not bad, but pretty much dried in cement. The looks say "I'm here to kick everybody's ***" but it can't even kick the Caddy's. Stick with the GT, and make it your own. It is one sweet machine.

Go back to your Camaro buddies. You obviously know nothing about Mustangs.
