GT 500 or 5.0

Ok guys been doing some searching but have to ask what you think. Have a 11 blk 5.0 right now, I have a chance to trade for maybe a 12 500 should I do it? I have not test drove one and my local dealer does not have one so I ask how is the power compared to the 5.0? Is it worth the trade or just mod out the 5.0. Was thinking of a 13 but too much money, I don't want to spend that much. Big thing is how does the two motors compare, does the Shelby pull that much harder, is it worth it?

The 5.0 is a great car, but it's not a GT500.

Dealers are getting rid of 12 GT500's, it's a buyers market. If you can get a good price & not get taken to the cleaners on the trade, go fo it.

What's the cost difference and can you get more bang for your buck by modifying your existing 5.0? GT500's are nice and all BUT I still wouldn't take the stock suspension for that steep of a price tag. This is because it's out of my budget and when I make an investment in anything I always pull for the biggest bang for my buck. If the cost diff between my car and a gt500 is 20k more or so, I would just get my current car blown and drop a Griggs system into it. I want my car to be a corner carver and not a straight line runner so what is great for me may not be for you and your aspirations. Is it worth it? Maybe! But it depends on what you want to do with the car and what you plan to use it for.

I actually just did what you are talking about. I traded my 2011 CSGT for 12 GT500, PP, Nav.
In relation to the power I felt like my 5.0 with the 93 race tune and 3:73 felt more throw you back in the seat until I really got a chance to open up the GT500. On an open deserted road I did some enthusiastic driving on a long cruise and I was very very impressed.
As far as the bang for the buck, as long as you are not in the negative when it comes to trade in value I say get a GT500. The market is right for the picking at the moment with new in the showroom left overs. X-plan plus trade in on a 2012 GT500 is pretty close to a loaded 13 GT.
Atleast that's my opinion.

Sweet looking 500 looks same thing im looking at. My gt is not tuned just exhaust and brembo package. Deffently not upside down on my 11. Thanks for the review sounds like need to be in boost for sure to get the equal or better then the 5.0 how about throttle response is the 500 snappy like I think the 5.0 is after about 3000 rpm.

The only thing I can say is in the 5.0 I thought I was going fast. In the GT500 the car rides like your doing 70 and you realize you are going way faster .

Sell your 5.0 and buy a boss 302. It will cost more but it's worth it. It's fine and dandy to have a hole pile of horsepower, but u need a car that can go fast around the corners. The boss is the way to go. They are over the top.

Lol yea took deleivery or it got to my dealer yesterday morn by trailer and one of the dually 350 they had on the lot. Came to me in freeport Il from TN. Finally got in it around ten for my first drive of a 500 to the gas station so we could fill her up.

First I noticed the clutch was easier then the regular mustang also the steering was alot smoother and easier. felt like my wifes Fiesta allmost does. Went easy on it of course need to get used to the feel of the shifter, but it had 38 miles on it so figured I could have full boost if desired

On the way home I got into a bit and all I can say is OH WOW the torque is just awesome and although a bit cool out it seems traction is a prob lol, but yard work called and some things around the house so in the garage my baby goes till next time

Congrats on the upgrade.

As others mentioned, it's a buyers market right now for the 2012 GT500s. So the story is we planned on a 2012 Boss 302 for the past year and a half. Then November 2011 rolls around and they announced the 2013 GT500. So a light bulb kinda flickered a little in my head... hmmm maybe we could swing a '12 GT500 for a good price vs. the plan on the Boss. So I began the process of selling my wife's '08 VW GLI and putting together a list of most of the 500 & 302's available in Texas. I found about 52 GT500's and about 29 302's. Made a spreadsheet with dealer info, colors/stripes and options plus msrp/xplan pricing. Next decided what we wanted and pursued the dealers that had them via email at first. I found a full range on prices: a little below MSRP, right at MSRP or like one of local dealers (Mac Haik in Georgetown TX) MSRP + $13k ADM

Then I had a couple that just wanted to sell because they knew in Summer 2012 the '13 model GT500 would be arriving. So we narrowed it down to 2 Silver models in the Houston area. Both the same as far as options (no stripes, SVT Perf Pack, Recaros and Car cover) with MSRP of $55,570/x-plan $50,773 and they would do $48,400 at one dealer & $48,600 at the other on these. Then i double checked after the sale of my wife's car on the Silver GT500, we decided on going with White so I continued looking for the deal and found one in the Dallas area that was loaded (no stripes, Nav/Elec package, SVT Perf Pack, Recaros and Car Cover) with MSRP of $57,910/x-plan $52,806 and they would do $49,999. After locking the location up on google and seeing the dealer on street view, they didn't have a show room so this one has been outside, for a while (ran a car fax on a new vehicle and it showed it was built/delivered june'11) So being picky I declined and saw a Ford dealership in Marble Falls TX had a White one on eBay for full price ($57,535... same as Dallas dealer car minus car cover option). I emailed them and got them down to $52,500 but felt they could do better. Sales guy passed me on to sales manager who said that was best they could do. Sales man suggested I come out there anyways and I kinda agreed. So next day we headed out and grabbed some breakfast and hit the dealer bright and early. I had my down payment in hand and approval letter from credit union for my financing, all I needed was the deal.

Meet with sales guy, who was a nice one vs some of the pushy ones we've dealt with before. We drooled i mean looked over the car, it was very clean. Had been inside their showroom since they received in october '11. So we talked price, met the sales manager who said that $52,481 was best deal they could do which was x-plan also. I never mentioned X-plan but did bring up a incentive plan I had read about from Ford to move the 2012's that was released in january. Unfortunately this small town Ford dealership didn't qualify, seemed to only be for Major Markets. So I think he got the feeling I knew what the heck I was talking about and was looking to buy that day and willing to go where ever. He was gone for about 20 minutes, I saw him on the phone and he brought me a price. $50,500. I said yes and brought it home. Since it was indoors and I was not going to have to drive my truck up to the Dallas and back home along with driving back the new car the $501 difference was fine with us. Overall we are very happy with it, kids both fit fine and our oldest (5yr) loves the exhaust when he rides in it.

No plans for the car in the near future. In theory we are already up 106hp over our original plan Just a few comfort features: FRPP Resonator Eliminator, MGW Shifter, CDC Dead Pedal, Ford Rubber Mats.

Congrats on the new car. Definitely made the right choice and a great deal.
