As if I didn't have enough problems. I pull up and tried to get some gas off the turnpike at a Sunoco. I see the guy struggling with the nozzle and hose. I get out look at the situation and see 2 nice scratches, right above the gas door. I say dude look what you did to my car.... Then he pulled the I don't speak english routine. I said go get your manager, he understood that. So I am holding my head explained the whole thing filled out an incident log and left really upset. The manager said that's why we have insurance and it will get taken care of. I just really don't have time for this.
I called Sunoco customer care reported it and now I have to wait for their insurance company to contact me, for the repairs. I am going to get an estimate tomorrow.

So to all beware and those of you who are lucky enough to live in states to pump your own gas, its a great privilage. Trust me.

Sorry to hear that. I know what it feels like.
Even at full service stations I fill my own car. When I had my 97 a guy asked if I wanted my windows washed while I filled the car. I said sure. What a mistake. When he was almost done he did one more pass and the metal part of the squeegee made a 2" gouge in the metal along the passenger side. Couldn't simply fix it with touch up paint. I had to use scratch filler, primer and paint. What a pain.

Even here in NY when it says full service I get out and say I'll take care of it. DONT LET THEM FILL YOUR CAR AGAIN! You do it or find another station that will eventually get to know you and wont even come close to your car.

If I am not mistaken, in the state of NJ, it is illegal for one to fill their own car up with gas, which means no place can legally allow you to do it.

You know, I have been filling my own gas tanks for many years. I have yet to come across a situation requiring me to wrestle with a filling nozzle to the point I scratched my car. Nor have I been overwhelmed by the dexterity requirements for the task of washing windows.

WHat is UP with these people? How hard is this? Really?

That is just awful. I feel your pain. I watched helplessly as a valet retrieved my beautiful, never had damage, truck and while taking a turn didn't clear the 90 degree corner of the cement wall :bang: :bang:

I live in NJ and I always go to pump my own gas; rarely have been stopped. On the occasions where they have stopped me it's ok because I have a locking gas cap and I never hand the key over to them. I always get out of my car and unlock it myself being sure to stand there when they operate the pump. They pay better attention at that point. I hope yours is an easy fix and that you won't be able to tell it ever happened. :bang:

Wow, didn't know about the "gas pumping" laws in other states. Here in CA, where I live, I haven't seen a full service gas station in a few years. I'd rather fill my tank myself, never trust anyone with your property, I don't.

Hope your car gets taken care of soon.

I grew up in and NJ. I could be wrong, but I believe the law is in place mainly to provide employment. Now I live in MD and I've gotten so used to pumping my own that it it throws me when I go back to NJ.

I'm in NJ not too far from where he is. I use the same gas station every time and ESPECIALLY with this car, pump my own gas. These geeks are sooo lazy, they are happy to see me come in so they don't have to work. I haven't let anyone pump gas into this car except me and I've almost had it a year now.

The knucklehead machine runs 7x24. It never stops. I say do everything you can to protect your car.
