Like the OP I'm searching for a used car too, not because of the winter though. Just thinking about getting a 2nd job or going back to school and would never take the Stang to a college campus or a second low end job.
That is a sweet subie, very well maintained, but like the OP I have the same budget of around 2500. Do let us know what 2nd car you get
good luck!

No one puts Baby in the corner but I put my Mustang in the garage during Winter.
Besides, Winter is what the F-150 is for. Duh.

Snow tires make these cars a blast to drive in the snow. You'd be amazed at the traction available with a good set. ~$600-800 is way under the $2.5k you are looking to spend. Try searching craigslist for a set of take-off wheels to mount them on, and you will not have to worry about mounting/dismounting the snows every season.
I drove the first winter on the stock all-seasons and 200 lbs of sand in the trunk and got around just fine as well.

I probably should re-phrase my question: "Those of you who get snow, do you drive your stang in the winter?" Lol. I wish I lived where I was that lucky, I wouldn't mind that heat you all get in the summer as long as the winter don't get below 40. Here in the Chicago area, we have 2 seasons, winter and construction. Both of which suck.
I drove two different stangs in the winter. In my opinion, they are one of the worst cars you can drive in the snow! I couldn't even make it up my driveway and always had a shovel in the trunk. My new Stang will stay covered in the garage for winter, I bought a 05 Tacoma to get me around in the snow.
I drove mine the last two winters in some light snow. Traction was very good, even with the factory tires. But when we had 3' of snow on the ground last winter, it stayed in the garage for a couple of weeks. We drove the wife's Edge if we had to go out.
Re: the salt, just wash it ASAP in a car wash with an undercarriage sprayer and it should be fine. Be sure to get the wheel wells really good too.
