auto or manual?
I ordered my new Stang tonight from 05fordGT, who I met through this site. Just happened to be searching for information on 2013 ordering and came across him answering questions and he is very close to me. Great guy, highly recommended.

Here’s my angst. Historically, I have ALWAYS purchased manual transmission cars. This ’14 is going to be more or less a daily driver once it arrives. My daily commute is 45 miles one way, mostly highway.
I got in a fight (and lost) with my John Deere riding mower this summer. Went sideways down a ravine, rolling end over end. I ended up with a compound fracture in my left arm with three broken ribs. I was lucky it wasn’t more serious.
I’m thinking automatic for this Mustang only because my arm is not 100% yet and I need both hands on the wheel. Over time, this will improve… Will I drive myself crazy second guessing myself and regretting that I ordered an automatic mustang….

I was going to buy an auto also. I drive 30 miles each way in stop and go Los Angeles traffic. I test drove both and couldn't live without the manual. I'd test drive one and see what your body can handle. If you can suffer till you heal, I would get the manual.

Welcome to the TMSers from a fellow PAer!!! Congrats on the new placed order looks awesome!!! As far as transmission goes it's YOUR car get it the way YOU need it! When you're sitting in traffic you'll be thinking 'glad I don't have a manual'!

I think that you will eventually miss the manual. I realize it isn't always financially possible but if you own two cars it is always nice to have one of each. My automatic Trans Am is great for driving in traffic and when going to Atlanta (stop and go), but when I want the twisties here in the mountains or some spirited driving my 5 speed Mustang is the obvious choice. It is very difficult to give up shifting when you are used to it.
Heal up real good and then save up some $$ for a manual to go along with your auto. Enjoy it!

I am selling my '07 Honda S2000 (obviously manual) to get my Mustang V6 premium convertible with auto. I concluded that with a manual you have to shift all the time, like it or not, on hills, etc. The SelectShift on the Ford auto is manual enough to let me shift when I WANT to. I am looking forward to autocrossing my Mustang. Listen to your body.

Living in British Columbia (Canada) in a small mountain town my last few cars have been automatics and now I would not even consider a manual ...maybe I am just too old and lazy now!!
for all that shifting. The new automatics are awesome and I doubt you will be unhappy with your choice ...especially since your incident you can enjoy your car now!

Manual
I'll throw in a vote for the manual. I hear the argument for the auto (sorry to hear about the riding mower incident), but I personally would either wait until I heal enough for a manual, or buy a cheap automatic daily driver and get the manual Mustang for the weekends/fun days. Once healed, I know I would regret not getting the manual. Good luck either way!

Well I prefer a manual for a hi-performance vehicle. But given your situation you have to consider your health and safety. I am in Seattle and the Freeway traffic is far from a freeway. I would look at how much clutch and shift action you are going to do.

I also prefer my '13 automatic for commuting in stop and go Los Angeles traffic. Sure the manual would be more fun for sporty driving, but I spend most of my time in rush hour traffic. I still remember how sore my left knee would get after an hour of 5 mph freeway driving in my '85 GT stick shift. It had a very stiff clutch.
