That's why we have choices. Each of us knows what's right for ourselves.

I love tiptronics because you can drive them like a regular auto in traffic, then select gears on twisty roads. It'll stay in the chosen gear until you up or downshift it, and then it will do it quickly and smoothly. I've got a few thousand miles of wheel time in a Mercedes E320 (not mine), and that transmission seduced me.

But if you prefer a stick, as 2/3 of the votes on this thread indicate, more power to you.

I think I'll hold off on the new Mustang until I see if a tiptronic and (don't ban me Dan!) you know what else is available.

No problem. To each his own. I know people that LOVE tiptronic also. Its really is okay. My point is that for anyone that loves using a clutch and a manual shifter, it won't replicate the experience.

And though I won't ban you, you might be waiting a while for that tiptronic. :-D

Automatics are fine for cruisers like my old Mercedes SEL, but for a Mustang? Even if I had to pay for the manual, instead of the reverse, I would get one.

:drive:

Wow, poll is 2:1. Anyone know the actual sales ratio?

I agree. I drove one for a short period one day. It was nice to have both options. But I still wanted to push a clutch in.

Considering all the rental companies bought V6 auto's, you would expect the ratio to bend in favor of the auto.?? :dunno:

I never said it would. But when you have spent 6 hours trying to get through LA on a Friday afternoon, you'll know why I drive a slushbox. After 40 years of driving a stick, I think I have enough experience to know what I want.

To each his own, and don't knock the other's choices. That's all I ask.

My last Mustang(91 GT) was a manual. My next Mustang(05GT) will be manual. I love shifting gears myself and feel more in tune with the car. Last time I checked it's a free country so if you want an auto that's fine with me. All I ask, no matter what trans you have, is stay out of the left hand lane if your only goin 40mph on the freeway. :-D

wilnsar 8/21/04 06:09 AM

Manual. Nuff said. :nice:

drkshado 8/29/04 09:50 PM

:nice: manual for me/nothing less/there is no better way to feel the power in your stang when your shifting gears/peace/ :worship:

5 spd for now, but if I can get someone to buy my car, I'll be moving up to a 6. not bad for being 19.
i choose manual because i hate my auto. to easy to speed in. i am also selling my 1991 firebird. only problem is that it's a v6. if any one in interested my email is area5179@aol.com :bang:

foxhtn 8/30/04 06:57 PM

personally, I'd prefer the standard. Always have been a stick man. Besides that is where the fun is; trying to make ---- er sound like an automatic when you power shift. :nice: right on dude!

ItsNotABulliT 9/2/04 08:51 AM

Manual, its a sports car, and meant to be driven like one. You don't see race car drivers cruisin along in an automatic.

Rainman 9/29/04 03:58 PM

Manual all the way...... My 67' is an Auto though. Prefer an automatic tranny for a classic

Red Dragon 777 9/29/04 04:27 PM

i like my auto and i will stick with auto in the new 05

WBstangGT 9/29/04 07:07 PM

Oh, I already voted in this poll, well I'll say what I've probably already said... manual until the day I die, until someone disables my left foot or my right arm I will drive manual till the die I die.

SixtySix 9/29/04 07:20 PM

Auto for me.....I've been driving sticks for years, and to be honest I can have just as much fun in an auto. I have to drive in bumber-bumper L.A.- like traffic for 2 hours a day. I've grown tired of it.

69stang351w 10/7/04 12:50 PM

got a 5 speed manual now in my Iroc, but going to order 5 speed auto for the 05 stang gt
