Hmmm... I thought the Espada was an earlier car (shows you how much I car about Lambroghini history), another good example is Aston Martin, they were blasted back in the 70's for have been very similar to the 69-70 cars IIRC.
You would find that the Lamborghini Espada was based upon a 1967 showcar and a Bertone Pirana..

My guess is the 1971 Mustang was designed at after the 1967 Geneva show and therefor could well have been influenced by these two cars. The Mustang was supposed to be an American pony car in the European style in its conception and even early advertising in 1965.
I'm not saying its definite, but its possible.
