My little brother works with a guy who has '69 Mustang KK Nascar up on EBAY. I knew old Mustangs could be very valuable, but I was amazed at what I saw when I looked the car up. It is just a shell, and it is in pretty bad shape. The current bid was up to $31k. I am new to the Mustang world........Is this kind of price common for cars in this shape. Sorry, I don't know how to post a link. Search EBAY for.....mustang kk nascar. If anyone who looks it up knows how to post the link, please do so.

This is why it is so much:

Thats a Boss 429 body. Build cars like that can go from $80k (if your lucky) to about $150k.

Heres the link to the auction.

Thanks, I was kinda figureing that the plate that said NASCAR was the main reason. From the info on the auction page I gather that only 859 cars were produced with that plate. Am I correct in that assumption?

Nascar isnt really the reason. The Boss 429 motor is. Since there was so few of them made and since that was the biggest motor in a mustang thir value is quite high.

There were Mustangs that raced in the NASCAR series. I've seen a few pictures before of the cars. What I haven't been able to determine is if the cars raced in the Grand National Series or in regional sportman classes or both. Maybe this will shed some additional light on the subject.

Cool Find!

All 1969 and 1970 Boss 429 Mustangs had a KK Nascar number. There were 859 1969's.Ford couldn't use the Boss 429 engine in its Nascar stock cars until 500 street vehicles were produced with the same engine(detuned unfortunatly) My car is KK 1824 which was the 604 th Boss 429 manufactured. KK stands for Kar Kraft, that's where the 429 engines were installed. The first 279 were hydraulic lifter cars and were S units and the later cars were T units with different rods, pistons & either mechanical or hydraulic lifters. Info came from The Complete Book of Mustang.

The shameful part is someone let such a rare car get into such a sorry state...

True, but this Boss 429 doesn't have engine. Why is the price so high then?

sellers will always be able to raise prices on rare cars like these because quite frankly the public will pay it. thats the only real reason. someone out there sees this as a car that NEEDS to be rescued and restored, so they're willing to put all this money into it.

same reason collegeboard can charge $82 to take an AP test: because we will pay it

The price is excessive for sure, I've seen nice Boss 302's go for that price complete (which I'd rather have anyway but I digress). My guess is that we they are paying for is the Boss 429 pedigree.

An "enterprising" person could build a fake using the parts that make it an "official" Boss 429 and sell the "certified" fake for big profit. I would hate to see that happen but it is certainly possible.

Fortunatly, the Boss 429's are very hard to clone.Without a valid vin number and the KK number (exclusive to all Boss 429's)it would show up as a fake immediatly. Then there's the modified shock towers etc. I have only seen 1 car built to be a Boss 429 and it was a convertible, very sweet car, wish I had bought it car,but eyerybody knows Ford didn't build ragtop BossesI am just glad I kept mine all these years.
