The '70 had better looks in my opinion and was easier to drive on the street.

A calypso coral 69 Boss 302 would be my pick for the best classic.

Make mine a '70 Calypso Coral. Have you ever seen one in Silver? There was one at the 40th Anniversary Show.

another vote for the 70 grabber blue Boss......but if we were talking about the Boss 429, i'd definitely have to go with the 69 model

Can any of you fine gentleman school me on what the differences are between the Boss 302 and Boss 429, besides the engine/horsepower (obviously). And also which one in your opinions would be better.

The Boss 302 was developed as a Trans Am car and had great success in the Trans Am series winning 7 of the 24 races they entered. Most of which were in 1970 and helped Ford win the Trans Am series that year (the actual race cars started as 351 fastbacks). The car was rated at 290hp and 290tq but were actually much higher. The only thing that changed between the 69 and 70 model was the striping. All of them came with a 4 speed transmission with a Hurst T handle shifter. Sport slats, rear spoiler, Magnum 500's, hood tach, and shaker scoop were all optional.

Suspension: Competition type with heavy-duty front coil and rear leaf springs. Heavy-duty rear Gabriel shocks are staggered to prevent wheel hop. A .85 front sway bar (70 model had a .5 rear sway bar as well). Power-assisted front-disc and rear-drum brakes

Engine: 302 cubic-inch small-block V-8 with 4-inch bore with 3-inch stroke. Special “Cleveland” cylinder heads with 2.19-inch intake and 1.71-inch exhaust valves (69 had 2.23 inch intake). Special mechanical high-lift cam. Block has screw-in freeze plugs and four-bolt main bearing caps. Forged steel crankshaft statically and dynamically balanced. Special aluminum intake with Holley 780 cfm carb. Dual point distributor.

The Boss 429 was developed to allow Ford to use the 429 engine in NASCAR. The engine had to be installed in at least 500 cars before it could be considered a factory engine. The 429 was a 'semi hemi' with valve covers that allowed the spark plugs top entry to the hemispherical combustion chambers. It was underrated at 375hp. The Boss 429 did not have the striping like the Boss 302, or some of the other options. It only had a Boss 429 decal on the side and a huge hood scoop and magnum 500's. Only came with a 4 speed transmission.

Suspension: Competition type with heavy-duty front coil and rear leaf springs. Heavy-duty rear Gabriel shocks are staggered to prevent wheel hop. A .94 front sway bar (70 had a .5 rear sway bar). Power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes

Engine: 429 cubic-inch big-block V-8 with 4.36-inch bore with 3.59-inch stroke. Special “semi hemi” aluminum cylinder heads with 2.28-inch intake and 1.90-inch exhaust valves. Special mechanical high-lift cam (S engines) or special hydraulic high-lift cam (T engines). Block has four-bolt main bearing caps. Forged steel crankshaft statically and dynamically balanced. Special aluminum intake with Holley 735 cfm carb. Dual point distributor.

Less than 9,000 Boss 302's and around 1,300 Boss 429's were produced.

Below is a pic of a 1969 Boss 429

No problem

The black one is a 69 as well. The 69 Boss 429 had the scoop on the quarter panel...the 70 model did not. The head lights are also different.

70 Boss 429
