History repeats itself. They screwed up the cougar and the mustang in the 70's.

I thought Ford had discontinued production of all passenger cars with the exception of the Mustang towards focusing on their SUV and CUV lines... If Ford has since reversed course with the decision, then I don't have an issue with producing a V8 powered 4-door sedan.. Just don't put the Mustang nameplate onto it...

Ford sure is milking the heck out of the Mustang name. Next in line - Mustang Pick-up truck, Mustang Motorcycle, Mustang ATV, etc....

I think it is simply part of Ford exploring using the Mustang brand as a marque, not just a model.
Folks were outraged when Porsche released the Panamera. A four-door Porsche? Sacreligious! The Cayenne? A Porsche SUV? Horrified! The EV Taycan? Evil!
They all sell and assure Porsche's future. What matters to a manufacturer is what sells. They're thinking, "Is there a market for a four-door performance ICE sedan we've missed up to now?"
If it helps secure a better future for Ford and our favorite two-door sports car, sure! Build it! This is why I don't object to the Mach E.
For decades it was Ford/Mercury/Lincoln. One day it may be Ford/Mustang/Lincoln (if they get smart and do something about Lincoln too.)
