I'm looking at a 2007 Shelby GT. 4.6 All stock. 30000 miles. Does anyone know how good the stock exhaust is and can you recommend a good replacement? I've been looking at magaflow and Flowmaster.

When you say, "Good" what exactly do you want that to mean? As in, does it have the muscle car sound/rumble, etc?

 

Mostly performance as the primary but sound/rumble as well.

stock exhaust is pretty good, for a stock exhaust . . . some gains available with long-tube headers and new mid-pipe to go with them, but they are pricey and also likely to cause difficulties with emissions inspection

easiest change for sound is the mufflers; lots of options available . . .I think I'd wait to see how I like the stock exhaust note before deciding on any changes

 

Yep, make sure to listen to what it is stock before doing things ahead of time. As mentioned, for performance you will want to get long tube headers (Kooks is my preferred) to go along with whatever exhaust (axle back/cat back). Exhaust tone depends on what you like...americanmuscle website, or even you tube has plenty of different exhaust demos to help determine the sound you prefer. If you want tone alone....axle back setup is the cheapest route to get some rumble.

 

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of keeping it stock for the most part. If I feel I need a better sound I may opt for different mufflers since i don't want to create problems with emissions.

Thanks for the link. Definitely helps. I have noticed that on some 2007 Shelby Gt models some have hood pins and others do not. Are the pins an indicator of whether it is a real Gt?

I'm pretty sure the Shelby GT's will have some kind of numbered plaque from Shelby; not sure if it is on the dash or under the hood somewhere; but that is the best way to tell if it is a "real" Shelby GT.

Keep in mind, those Shelby GT's were not a big deal; just some minor modifications and the Shelby name . . . might be worth a few dollars more than a regular GT, but unless the Shelby name is worth a lot to you, I wouldn't pay much more than a comparable regular Mustang GT.

 

STOCK is SWEET in my opinion. Wonderful exhaust note right from the factory.

 

IIRC, the stock axle back exhaust is the Ford Racing M-5230-GTA manufactured by Supreme Performance which is no longer in existence. If it were my car? I'd stick with your stock Ford Racing GTA mufflers that have an awesome exhaust note right out of the box

 

I am considering this to be my everyday car. Anyone out there who is doing this?

Depends if your area experiences all seasons. I live in IL, so I wouldnt want a RWD coupe as my everyday car. People do it, but not my preference.

Mustangs make great daily drivers; I dailied mine for years, in Massachusetts . . . if you have snow, a set of winter wheels and tires is well worth the investment . . . and if you watch Craig's List for a while, you might be able to pick up a set for cheap like I did

 

I want to buy myself a Shelby GT 2007 and it is important to hear the opinion of an experienced person in this matter, since I have not driven before. Finally, I can make my dream come true thanks to (getting banned for putting a phishing link here) but I'm afraid to make an unwise purchase out of emotions.
