1969 Mustang

Hi I have a question about a car I might be interested in. Where can I find information to see how much a car like the one below might be worth, and how to confirm how authentic is it? I really like it, and if is worth it, well would really like to get it as a collectors item.

It is supposed to be a 1969 Mustang 428 Cobra Jet Fastback(the ad says there were only 900 like this one built), take a look at the pictures:

You could ask them for a Marti Report or get one yourself. Costs a few bucks but you'll get the cold hard facts on the VIN.

Meccum sold a red one like that this weekend. You could go to their sight and see how much it sold for. That is one gorgeous Mach1, wouldn't mind having that at all!

That thing looks like a menace! Nothing like red on black.

Those hood pins OEM?

I remember my father had a 428 69 when I was knee high to a grasshopper wished he would have kept it.

start your bidding at about 80 grand .. and i really dont think it is the kind of car that you can call an investment or would want to collect unless you can easily afford it .. i dont see them getting any more expensive 5 or 10 years down the road ..

There were three 69 428 Mach 1's at Mecum last week. One sold for $59,000, one got to $57,000 but didn't sell, & the last one got to $70,000 & didn't sell.

Before you do anything, get a Marti report on it. You need to know things like whether it's an original Mach, whether it was originally a big block, what trans & other options it came with, & whether it's the original color. The Marti report will help a lot.

These cars are pretty variable in price. Condition is everything and some people have the impression they are really special. There were a good number of 428 Mach 1s made in '69 so they really aren't, over 13K 1969 428(S)CJs were made almost all of them going into some of the 72,500 mach 1s. I really don't understand the big dollar prices they get at times. All I can figure is that it is baby boomers bidding them up with their retirement funds. I don't expect these high prices to continue forever.

Now if only the '69 mach 1 my dad had would turn up... only a 351W 2bbl but I'd rather have that one over any other '69 mach 1. Sadly the salt probably finished eating it before 1985. It was well rusted in '78.
