A word about these language filters

But I must point out: so does "D!ck". Why are we usurping THIS word on these forums - thereby denigrating a person's legitimate Christian name - because a few have adopted it in the popular vernacular as a swear word? This is PCness run amok, IMO.
Again, I think Brad said it best: There is no rhyme or reason to these filters - they are part of an indiscriminate template, and therefore largely indefensible.
As I mentioned before, I have no problem with mods blocking the most egregious swear words, and lesser profanity used in personal attacks, but the rest is a slippery slope.
"D-a-m-n" is censored. "Hell" is not. Doesn't make sense. On the other hand, consider >>
"You're a d-a-m-n fool!"
"D-a-m-n" that car looks hot!
One is insulting, one is not. Context is important. Filters aren't smart enough to understand usage or meaning; they should therefore be used sparingly, IMO.
By itself, I do not consider "d-a-m-n" much of a swear word. I think that those who do, need to get out more.

One more datapoint; if your company uses WebSense and we "opened the floodgates" so to speak, guess how long it would take before you'd lose the ability to access TMS at work?

You wouldn't be the only one raising "cain" either. There would be a fair amount of staff on that lynch mob too.
A never ending debate but you can just blame it on the english language. As Hollywood pointed out, context can change everything, such as the following sentence.
"I can't decide if I should lay you or Jack off."
Now, I'm sure you are thinking, OMG, I can't believe he just said that, but I really don't know if I should lay off Susan or Jack, they are both great employees.

I favor TMS's side on this subject even though I am not affected whether the filters are in place or not, but it has to be recognized some can't compose a sentence without relying on less than impressive choice of words. English is a beautiful language with many variations to get points across without the reliance of trailer trash slang.
Although, the thought of Brad, Scott, and the MODS doing a Mustang rap video might be interesting...

Although I've never lived in a Mobile home/trailer, I find the term Trailer trash to be far more offensive than most profane slang used . The use of the term shows a total lack of sensitivity for the millions that live in these structures. One thing your post does show is that trash comes in many forms and financial levels, even people that drive GT500's.....

There is usually a good reason why a comment not directed at an individual is taken personal. The language filters have no conflict with intelligence but a lot with lack of manners or common sense. Living in a trailer and being trailer trash are not the same but I can understand and be sympathetic why some would relate the two.
