Signature Rule
#1
Is there a rule for the maximum number of lines in a signature? Some of them are getting excessive, and it is really annoying to have to scroll through the (15) lines (in one case) to get to the next post. I would think 5 should be suitable for everyone.
Edit: Just saw one signature with 24 lines and another with 31 (including spaced lines). I realize that most people are responsible enough not to do stupid things like have massive signatures, but there are always some that will take as much as they can get. 31 lines is simply rediculous, especially when you consider a full sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper is 37 lines on 12pt font.
(I'm purposely not naming names, but if a mod wants them, send a PM)
Something definetly needs to be done though.

You can go into your control panel and shut off signatures, but I believe it will turn them all off. It's in board settings.

Because it reduces scrolling? I turned off sigs very soon after joining the board for this very reason. There's rarely anything useful in them (take yours for example), and if someone says "see my sig" it's easy enough to go into their profile and read it.

Why should I disable all signatures because a few people want to be out of control?

Actually, my signature does not increase scrolling at all. My info box on the left is long enough that the petty two lines in my signature are short enough that unless I am typing one heck of a post, it doesn't make a difference scrolling wise. Regular signatures I have no problem with. Its when the thread becomes unreadable that I have a problem. I can see what you're saying, but on 1-5 or so line signatures, there isn't much of a difference enabled or disabled.
(And btw, if you'd seen the heck that used to happen whenever I posted, you wouldn't say that my sig isn't useful )

[/quote]Well, the info in your sig is what should be general forum practice, so maybe not useless but redundant.
(I do know some of your rep, as soon after I joined I got into some "offtopic thread drift" and was accused of being you.)
While we're on the topic of unnecessarily long posts, how about doing something about the excessive quoting? People quote whole posts, sometimes filled with images or four other levels of quoting, to add one or two lines. Any way to limit quotes to two levels and remove image links?

I know it's scary and I should check the weather channel because I just believe heck just froze over but I agree with Grantsdale. I only made mine so long because I kept getting the same pm's on what mods I've done. Since I put the link to my web page I figured I didn't need the long signature. I knew you weren't talking about me, but it was a good point.

Hmm...perhaps even my sig is too long...
I agree that some have gotten pretty extreme(with every option listed on their car and such...)
However, just to play's devil's advocate, I think some like PONY XPRESS are ok, as they do inform...
