Personal Attacks

I read the posting, and want to say that this site is the best, most helpful forum I've ever been on. I typically have little time to spend on forums, and have had a rotten experience on another site (not a Stang site), being attacked by a person with thousands of posts, because he felt I was asking a "stupid" question. I was just trying to learn.
This forum haas been absolutely the best, and I sincerely appreciate those that have welcomed "newbies" and helped them (me) along. I'm doing some mods that without this site, I would not have done. Thanks again, what goes around comes around, you reap what you sow...

I know what you mean. All forums seem to have 'em. As in real life, you just gotta move on and hang with the folks who are a bit easier-going and with nothing to prove.

The older I get, the more I realize just how true this is.

Welcome.

Yeah, I'm too old to deal with self-centered people. That's why I check this site almost every day, to see what I can learn and maybe if I'm lucky, contribute to someone else learning. Like I said, this is a gret site!

Having joined this forum over a year ago, I've had an opportunity to witness some fairly cruel attacks launched against new members. It's sad to see how often the newbies posts come to an end.

They may still be reading the threads, but they are not sharing their own thoughts or information with other members on the forum. I for one am looking forward to seeing more respect for others.

Unfortunately it happens on just about every forum. The one downside of the internet is that it's totally impersonal and anonymous. Folks who have low self esteem and self worth are able to get all pumped up because they've been around longer and have seen a lot of the subjects discussed before. It's just too easy for them to belittle a newb and direct them to the archives rather than answering something that they supposedly know so well. I'm relatively new on the forum (time wise) but I've been pretty active. I must say that my experience thus far has been pretty good. Car guys in general are a helpful bunch and are usually more than willing to help a fellow car guy out. The guys that jump all over newbs aren't really car guys. They're mouse jockeys.

I have to agree with RobK. People do say a lot of rotten things behind their keyboards and screens as they can hide without showing their face. The thing is to not take it as a personal attack or let their comments get your blood pressure up.

Well said but even here I have seen it happen where someone will ask a question and of course someone will say do a search this question has been asked already. What I like about this forum is that usually someone will put an end to that and help out by answering their question. +10 to the help.

it can take a very long time to develope a comfortable feeling on a forum but only a smart a$$ reply or two to drive a person away for good .. if anyone gives you grief p/m a mod ..i run up and down most all the threads every day .. sometimes contribute / sometimes dont .but people do like to be responed to rather than ignored

I visit a couple of other forums, (not Mustang related), and this my favorite, that it lacked alot of the meaness was just frosting on the cake. It seems to me that some on other forums actually enjoy the fights and attacks. I used to occasionaly look at another mustang site, but haven't in some time and don't miss it a bit. It's great that the mods are keeping it what it should be! to them.

Not to cause problems but why do attacks by people you don't know bother you? Peoples opinions whom you don't care about are totally irrevalent. Plus most people are flaming morons who shouln't be allowed outside with out a keeper much less own and operate a car.

Well, for me they don't, and based on your last statement, I suspect you feel the same way. What does bother me is how the newcomer to the site feels, does he/she feel welcomed to the community? When a newbie comes forward with a question that then leads to ridicule, why bother to stay? There are other boards to follow, and other places to ask questions.
It would be interesting to know if this board feels if it is important to make newcomers feel welcome. Not just the Gods, but the members themselves. I've learned alot here, and made some friends as well. Best of luck.

There is a differerence between a newbie seeking knowledge and acceptance, gradually becoming familiar as opposed to using challanges or confrontations to establish himself. The way I view it, each and everyone of us was ignorant at one point and ridicule was not the prefered method of initiation, so a certain level of consideration and tolerance should be provided.

I would guess one's reception will depend a lot on one's approach.
