No images in signatures?

I've always wondered why images in signatures are not allowed? I think it would be cool to see custom banners and such for peoples cars.

We've never allowed pictures in signatures. I'm a fan of no photos in signatures.

But feel free to voice your opinions. I am sure Brad or Scott will address this thread.

the funny thing is that whenever TMS comes back after a major upgrade, pics are allowed in the signature. I always put a pic in my signature before they ban them lol

Image sig's are OK but some people tend to think bigger is better! Unless size limits are enacted and enforced I tend to find myself in the -1 camp. Of course this is Brad's decision so we'll just have to wait and see what the head cheese has to say...

Meh, I like the lack of images, keeps the place less cluttered. I think that was Brad's and Scott's initial reasoning, but I'm not perfectly sure.

some of thses sigs around here are kinda long and filled with some senseless info to begin with imo. Pics would just make them longer.

yeah i kinda like how it's streamlined without pics in the sig.
it would look way to cluttered...

but i totally agree about having a post delete option. not only edit.
esp. for double posts to avoid looking like an r-tard.

i was one of the graphics team moderators over on BlackMustangClub (stepped down from mod status temporarily), and one of the resident sig making gurus, and we have limits over there:

limited to one image in your sig, not to exceed 550x150 pixels
text is limited to 2 lines with image, 4 lines if no image is used

I agree it should have limits in place and most forums out there have the option to allow the user to turn it off. I always get the feeling something is missing when I see a post here compared to other sites.

I like as is - no sig images. I spend enough time w/ the scoll button trying to get past people's 30 line signatures as it is.

That's exactly the reasons why its not turned on, to make people think before they speak. The only plausible reasons I can discern as to why someone would need a delete function is to remove a double post, but thats why we have Moderators and Administrators.

Guys/Girls, "Pics in Sigs" is always a debated topic amongst the staff. One of the main reasons it is turned off is because of the "clutter factor" and the ability to cause problems for other members. Kind of like when someone creates a pic and hosts it at photobucket, then links it to every board they are a member of. Guess what happens when they go over their bandwidth limit? We get a big ugly warning message that breaks frames and "slows the forum down" as the user sees it. Also, "red X" pics can cause page load times on the user side to go from 2 seconds to 20 seconds as IE and Firefox wait their default timeout periods before showing the "red X". Dial-up users usually spend three times the amount of time browsing the forums than before. Then you have the questionable content that always seeps into sigs after a while. Why is this such a big deal? Well, this has been and always will be a site geared for a family enviroment. Nothing like showing your 4 year old daughter some great pictures of 93 Saleen and then have her say "Daddy, why is that lady in her birthday suit?"

If you are wanting to see pictures of people's cars, we are working on a Gallery to do just that. Hopefully we will be able to intergrate it directly into a users profile so you'll just have one click to see a users ride. As for "pics in sigs", we are discussing it but there hasn't been any real progress "for" it lately. But, keep giving us your opinion and let us know if this is something you would like. If there is enough support, we can definately look at how we can work the solution and make it feasable for both sides. Thanks for your support!
