Mustang Source loading problems
Mustang Source loading problems
As of late, I have not been able to connect to the homepage of TMS, and my only way to even access TMS whatsoever is to enter the site through the forums, and even that does not prove as a working method sometimes. Can any of the admins try to address this problem and help me in any way to find out what it is?
I use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser and my internet connection is 54 MBPs, so I am appalled that I am having so many technical difficulties with this website, especially when I had none prior to about a week ago.
Thank you, mustangfan123

I know of some other people on here that have been having trouble too tonight.

So, are the problems "you all"* are having occuring in the twilight hours? From my point of view the only complaints I'm seeing, judging by your post timestamps, are for problems that happen between 12:00am and 6:00am.
*I say "you all" because I'm encompassing everyone who says they have a problem with the site loading.

I have a friend who tried about an hour ago and couldn't get on. He said it had something to do with the server not being found.

I have had problems for the last few days both evening and days. tried google, msn, bing and a few other search sites. just got on tonite for the first time in about 4 or 5 days. I have TMS in my favorites and did not work either. ???
Going straight to https://themustangsource.com or coming in from the website at https://themustangsource.com
I've been hearing lots of complaints tonight, so I don't think it's just one or two people having problems.

I was having troubles earlier this evening too. Like Ed, I even tried coming in through Google and on my phone with no luck.
I've been having problems getting into the site completely for the past week. Regardless of time, nothing. I thought the server had been hacked again and it was down completely. Tonight was the first time I was able to get on in a week or so.

It is usually the latter, but sometimes both, and in that situation I cannot access the site at all.

It seems like my access to this website goes back and forth, sometimes I can connect, while other times I cannot, this fluctuation even happens within the course of one day.
Wow, that sucks, and I also believed it was hacked once again. I could not get on earlier today all day again but for some reason I now have access.

I've posted about issues several times since the Labor Day crash but the guys always blame it on my ISP Hughes Satnet. While I know Hughes has its problems at peak usage, the odd thing is that when I can't get on TMS all my other sites are loading fine. If any sites hesitate, I hit the refresh and they then load pretty quick. Not so with TMS. When it acts up it won't load no matter how many different ways I type in the address - and its usually down most of the day.
Recently I have had to refresh a couple of times for it to come up but for me its been better since the server company did an upgrade. I've also noticed that if I'm on an active thread where people are posting frequently that sometimes when I click to read the last persons post the page hangs. I usually have to hit refresh or hit recent posts again and start over. Then I find that someone else has posted after the persons post I was trying to open. So maybe its a congestion thing in this instance where I wanted to read the post but another was being loaded simultaneously. But this is occurring when the site is loading fine overall.
I clear cookies & temp files frequently, use AVG daily with daily updates, and all kinds of spyware and anti spam etc. Scothew did give me filebeam.com which also uses the same server company. When TMS is down, I can still get filebeam to load, so its not like the server itself is down.
I have speculated that the DNS address numbers are changed - either by the server company, or perhaps as a security precaution, or whatever (I think I was told that they automatically change from time to time?). But then it takes time for the revised DNS to "propagate through all the servers" that may be in the chain from TMS server to me. (I had some challenges years ago with my website that after I would upload a revised page it would take some time for me to see it on the web and the customer service at my webhost explained that it takes a bit for all the servers to update and some servers are slower than others. I don't know if things are still that archaic or not so its just a hunch from my own experience years ago.) I still think that's the deal because after several hours when TMS comes up, I'll see that many people have been posting while the site was down for me. Maybe their random link of servers were faster than my random link of servers?
Now to read that others are having random problems more frequently tells me that something is out of whack and it isn't an isolated Hughes problem.
I also think there are issues with too many addresses themustangsource.com, forums.themustangsource.com, and bradbarnett.net (which still shows as an active address). If there are 3 DNS leading to the same site, and some are being randomly changed from time to time, that could be a problem. Are you keeping bradbarnett and using a forwarding address to TMS? Could that be the hitch?
I also didn't like how the server company TMS uses did an all day update during prime time last month or whenever it was. As a business owner with my own website I find that unacceptable. They should do their upgrades at night and give all their customer advance notice that the site is going to be down rather than us getting frustrated because we can't get on the site - and not knowing why. Sadly I think the crash and numerous down days since - as well as the upgrade done during the day - has had a negative affect on TMS folks because the site doesn't seem to have as many active posters as it used to - which means we have to find and fix the problem for good.
Lately its been working smoother for me. Just offering info & ideas for the real techies to ponder...

Over a couple week period it was hit or miss getting on this site, but have not had a problem yet THIS week.
edit:
Well, ever since the problem started I noticed that I had a better chance getting on the site if I went directly to the forums so I added it to my favorites and had been using this link all week. Out of curiosity, I just tried to get to the site via the home page and got the "this link appears to be broken". Then clicked on the forum favorite link and got right in.

We are working to try adn pin point these issues. If you have problems, we need info like what kind of internet you are on, exact times you are having the issue and also what error messages you are recieving.
