From everything I've read, the current V6 is one of the best engines Ford has put in the Mustang. It produces way more power than the 289 in my first Mustang (and gets much better gas mileage).
Happy shopping, and hopefully your parents don't feel too embarrassed at how much nicer your car will look compared to their Chebby.

Well I am a diehard mopar fan, and I do have to say, I like the mustang!
Test drove one just to shut a buddy up, I wanted a SRT8 challenger!
If you do get a mustang, idk about the V6 but the V8s are really hard to drive civilized!!
LOL!
Upgrading from a Charger RT Daytona, this thing is so much more responsive and better handling!!
But to answer your question of you find one you like go for it!!

Welcome and from what I have seen the v6 from 06 + seem to be pretty good as far as longevity goes. Of course if you can get into a v8 that would be the way to go. I would think it would be somewhat high milage car for 7k tho
