Old Fart with a New Pony
#1
Hello Everyone, :nono:
I'm an old fart and a relatively new arrival to Phoenix,Arizona.
Formally from Nassau County,New York.In April I sold my home mainly to escape the terrible winters back there
I've been a software engineer for too long specializing in database
technology. My partner and I do consulting work and sell software for MS sql server @ www.rac4sql.net <shameless plug>
My last car (sold before I moved) was a screaming red 86 Benz 560sl
v8 bought in 1990.I had it restored in 2000.A beautiful car but oh the
upkeep ($$) :notnice:
When I arrived in AZ I set about buying a new ride.I looked at the
usual suspects (Lincoln,Lexus,Infinity,Acura,Nisson,Toyota....).
Then one day a my friend and I drove into a Ford dealership.
While looking at an 05 T-Bird I noticed some Mustangs.I started to
wonder over to them at the distress of the salesman.I guess he was
insightful
I know nothing about cars except how to pay for
them.Although I grew up in the 'muscle-car' era I never had the $$
to buy one and certainly no knowledge to work on one.But I always
wondered what it would be like to have one.Fate never cooperated
either. My wife was a snob and wouldn't be caught dead in anything
that didn't have at least 200lbs of leather and the loudest noise
had to be the turn signal.Well she's in the big Bloomingdales in the
sky..so I continued to walk to the 05 mustags...sans salesman
I picked out a GT vert and after I was made aware that the car was $8k
over msrp I got to go for a test drive.I actually liked the way the car looked and of course I thought it was a fun drive. And the car was louder than the turn signal.Of course my friend lectured me on the
'cheap' interior and wondered how anyone could go from 560sl to a
'ford' mustang. He was very friendly with my wife.
Not knowing anything about the history of the mustang it certainly looked nicer than the older mustangs.I never did open up the hood.
Anyways 2 weeks later I owned the car.
Over the last 6 months I've been learning about the darn thing
thanks to the many knowledgeable folks on this forum. You guys are
great even if I comprehend very little of what you speak about.
A couple of young techs at the dealership have taken it upon themselves to help me spend $$ to get the car make more noise and run faster
Since I never modifed a car there is a certain fascination to it.
But to someone like me it seems sooooo complicated.I have so
many questions about so many gizmos
I will appreciate any help you guys can give me!!!
Pike.
Currently car has JBA shorty stainless headers,Bassani x-pipe and Bassani exhaust,3.73 gears.
Awaiting install of:
AEM intake since this is the only one the dealership will ok (no oil in filter)
A tune - what,where,how![Smile](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
To ceramic coat headers (don't know if necessary or not)
Steeda motor mounts (also don't know if necessary or not)
And the list goes on.
