Hello all. My name is Tom and I am soon to be a Mustang owner.

I got into convertibles when I purchased a '98 Jaguar XK8 just after retiring. It was gorgeous and VERY comfortable, but reliability was not great and repairs were costly. Along the way I bought a '91 Morgan 4/4 and had great fun with it. A little over three years ago I got a 2007 Honda S2000. I finally realized recently that while I loved to drive it, I didn't really like riding in it. It is cramped and rather noisy and the ride is pretty solid (read harsh). It's a great autocross car, but long road trips are another story.

We went to Hawaii last November and rented a V6 Premium Mustang convertible. I found that it is possible to have a lot of fun driving the car and still be comfortable. I have put my S2000 up for sale and last evening ordered a new Mustang. I learned today that it will be a 2014, as Ford has shut off orders for 2013s. I had ordered Red Candy Metallic with a stone top and interior. The 2014 will be Ruby Red Metallic, a very similar color. I ordered the V6 Premium convertible with the SelectShift automatic, the security package and the comfort package.

Driving the rental Mustang helped me to realize that with a manual transmission you shift all the time because you HAVE TO. The only times I really needed/wanted a stick were on an autocross course or on twisty highways. The ability to shift the Mustang automatic manually when I WANT to and not bother the rest of the time will be a great compromise. I found on a test drive that if I kept my foot down while upshifting, the shifts were a little slow like a typical automatic. I experimented with lifting slightly off the accelerator just as I hit the upshift button and the shifts were much quicker. It took very little getting used to and it convinced me to go ahead with the order.

My Mustang probably won't arrive until sometime in March, but I am REALLY looking forward to it. Thanks for bearing with my intro.

Thanks, Kevin. The last time I was through Spokane was on a month-long and 8,000 mile road trip in the S2000 last summer. Next time I go on a road trip it will be MUCH more comfortable. I can hardly wait. Now that I've made the decision, I WANT IT NOW!

Yeah I bet that S2K isn't the most comfortable road tripper! The new Mustang should fit the bill nicely.
