New Fox Body Member Asking About Convertible color combination rarities?
Hey guys! Any and all of you who know anything bout the rarer or more unusual colors of fox bodies, how rare are these? I've got this 1991 silver convertible 2.4 LX, automatic, which i know silver isn't that rare but knowing the actual numbers would be awesome. But the one I'm really intrigued about is the 1988 convertible 5.0 LX, automatic, the black with red pinstripes are factory, had a shop who deals with fox bodies all the time look at the paint job, and the top is also factory original too apparently. So if anyone knows anything about the rarity of these colors I'd love to know more. Thank you!!! Greatly appreciated!!!! If more info or pictures are needed I am happy to do my best! The black one currectly is in the shop getting the tranny rebuilt so it'll be a few days before I get her back. But both are VERY clean inside. The black '88 has literally NO rust, while the silver '91 has rust in the wheel wells and a little on the rockers, but other than that the '91 is rust free

Welcome!! I think the moderators will probably remove your similar posts so I'll respond here.
I've been into 'verts most of my driving life. From my first convertible in the early 70's to current, I have had many and seen many. Mustangs are the most common car found in convertible form. Any Mustang with a black top, NOT RARE, not even close. That tan top is uncommon but also not really rare. To find one today is tough though as most replacements of those tan tops were done with black. Much easier to keep clean and you don't see the marks. It's a bear to keep the tan tops clean, and white tops? Really difficult.
I have a tan (GM called this taupe) on my 2001 Trans Am and it is original. I have a yearly cleaning ritual to keep it nice besides being kept in a garage. It is somewhat rare as most Trans Am 'verts were black and very few 'verts were produced (only 396 in 2001 and under 1,000 for the final 2002 model year). Mustangs were made in the thousands each year. Many ordered by the rental car companies, especially in CA and FL.
I've owned 3 Mustang 'verts and glad I owned black for the 2007 and the current 2014.
Photos of the T/A and 3 Mustang 'verts below.
2001 Pontiac (bought new and still own it). Photo taken July 2023.
2004 triple white. We only owned this 3 years and what a bear to keep clean.
2007 GT/CS. Black top was excellent. Owned until 2022.
The Tan interior was available in 1988, but it was the 4-cylinder seats being the LX. The really rarer interior would have been the GT tan interior and in 1989 the LX got the GT seats so it would have been the same as the GT. The Tan option was dropped for 1990 so for the aero nose cars the tan interior was only 87-93. I've been around and working on these cars since those days and I've only ever personally come across cars with the tan GT interior on 3 occasions. I have not seen a tan top on one, that would have been uncommon. The tan interior parts were VERY common as all the Florida police cars had tan interior and it was more common on the 4-cylinder cars. The most sought-after color these days is black interior which appeared in 1990 and available through 1993 on the fox. These were more uncommon and black was never available in the 87-89 cars.
Pinstripes could be ordered factory, keep in mind as well that MANY dealers would do add ons to help sell a car and there were businesses that would gold plate the emblems and do pinstriping for example. Some additions were more involved and could go as far as paint work and body treatments. I once had an SVO I got from the original owner with custom striping and ribbed aluminum lower trim similar to the '70 Mach 1 and it was all documented. The car also had rear shoulder belts installed which was a Ford accessory option, this car was an '84.
