New 2011/2012
New 2011/2012
Hi, I'm Dennis, from near Palm Springs, in Southern California. I am about to buy a new 2011 (or is it 2012?) Mustang, but I'm really confused about which to get. My choices (other than year) boil down to GT Premium or GT500, but I'm really puzzled as to why the 412 hp GT is within a couple of ticks of the 550 hp GT 500 on 0-60 times. $12,000 (or more) is a lot extra to pay for .2 seconds, and I'm still leary of the Tremec trans, because I had one in my 2003 SVT Cobra . . . and I hated it. It's hard to give the new 2011 GT 500 a serious test drive when the salesman is sitting there pushing imaginary pedals on the passenger side. Besides, who wants to thrash a new car? And how can you test drive it for, say, 100 miles, so you REALLY know what you have?!
Any and all insights are much appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. I thought about buying a GT Premium and supercharging it, but the verdict is out as to whether or not the 5.0 is built to withstand the additional strain, like the 5.4 is.

Hey Dennis
Welcome to TMS! I'm from LA County.
You got a tough descion on your hand. Obviously if you can afford the shelby then go for it! I love my 5.0 but my next car will be the Gt500 hands down. It comes down to wheter if your into doing a lot of your own modifications to the car. If you are looking at the 12k difference in price tag your going to put just as much into the car with the supercharger and all the other mods that you will want to get.
You can't just look at the .2 seconds for the 0-60 stats theres much more to comparing the GT to the GT500. Not to mention 550HP to 416HP
MY vote if you can afford it GT500!
Good luck on your choice, hope to see you around So Cal

Couple other things.
You will DEF know what you have when you test drive a GT vs GT500.
And there are already a few members here that have supercharged their 5.0. But if that is going to worry you just go with the GT500.
