Just found this site, need cd changer help
Hi people! I've had my 2004 Mustang for almost 2 years and am really enjoying it.
I found this site by accident while trying to find help on getting a cd unstuck from my stock Mach 1000 changer. I took it to a car stereo place and was told I have 2 cd's stuck in one space and that I need to take it to a specialist. Really? Anyway, plan to come back and spend more time here for fun. In the meantime would appreciate any suggestions on the above-mentioned problem. |
A Ford dealer has resources for this situation. Some are local facilities like here in Kansas City. Others have to remove and ship, I would contact a local service department.

How do I get to it?
I can't access the cd's as is, need to be able to reach in there but can't see how the dash is assembled and afraid to just start trying to pop things loose. The car owner's manual is no help, doesn't show me anything about how the face plate is anchored. I'm willing to do this myself but don't know where to look for directions or guidance. I definitely appreciate the response and suggestion but I don't want to do more harm.

Well there are repair manuals for sale at your local auto store, like autozone or oreileys. I would O'Reileys and ask for the manual for 99-04 mustangs if they have it. You should be able to find how to take your dash apart there. I got my book for about 20 bucks so theyre not tht expensive

I didn't write these instructions I just found them on another site. But it should help you remove your radio
0) Unlock both doors, then use the 8mm socket to disconnect positive AND negative battery cable. 1) Remove the shifter knob. Place the shifter in 2nd, 4th or Reverse (for clearance) http://www.stangnet.com/tech/speedsound/speed1.jpg 2) Remove the shifter shroud by pulling out, towards you. 3) Disconnect the accessory plug harness. http://www.stangnet.com/tech/speedsound/speed2.jpg 4) Place the shifter in 2nd, 4th or reverse (for clearance) 5) Remove the radio/AC/vent trim panel by pulling towards you 5a) Don’t forget to unplug the connectors from the backside of this panel before removing! 5b) Start from the bottom and work your way up. Panel clips hold in that panel. Be gentle, don’t yank. http://www.stangnet.com/tech/speedsound/speed3.jpg 6) Remove head unit by removing the 2 outer bolts with the 7mm socket. Set bolts aside. http://www.stangnet.com/tech/speedsound/speed4.jpg 7) Disconnect the 2 wiring harnesses and antennae from the head unit. NOTE: Antennae simply pulls straight out.
