Hello NOOB here<

Good evening everyone! I am new here and in dire need of some help.!!! I have a 2006 Mustang that the starter is not engaging the flywheel at all after it has caused my pony to die while driving it this morning. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

welcome to the forum

I am not sure why a problem with the starter would make the car die when it is already running, can you elaborate?

When you try to start the car, Is the starter activating and spinning, but not engaging the flywheel?

like it just spins and doesn't engage the flywheel at all as if the bending is missing the flywheel and not extending but on the bench it works. Not in the car

hmmmm . . . . when you test it on the bench, what are you using as power source? The same battery, same solenoid?

how do the teeth on the starter and the flywheel look?

I am not sure exactly how this works, asking to get the info in case someone else can figure it out. My first thought was to make sure the battery is not weak, but I'm not sure that is relevant.

In addition to teeth checking of both flexplate/flywheel and starter, I'd also look into making sure the flexplate (if this is an automatic) isn't broken in general, like it's warped/cracked and the teeth can't be aligned anymore... Also, while the bendix might engage on the bench, it doesn't mean it's extending the gear enough. Taking measurements and markings is advised as there's not much

And yes, Bert, there's also the possibility the electrical is a problem. If it's got enough to spin, but not enough to oomph the bendix, this could be happening. So I'd inspect all cables and terminals involved. Voltage/amps available at the posts vs available beyond the terminals can be two things if there's terminal corrosion. If you have corroded terminals, might I suggest... The Amelioration...?

I love me some dramatics in text. That process fixed a lot of my electrical issues since I did that stuff, FWIW.

Hope that helps! And welcome to the forums!
