hello, just acquired 2008 Mustang GT convertible, triple black, 5 speed, I live in Greer, SC. This is just my fun car I have two other vehicles. I have been working and restoring cars since a teen which was a long time ago.

thanks for the welcome, I am going to work on the stang today, check engine code 193 came on replacing fuel rail sensor today, plan on changing trans fluid and plugs shortly, seems spark plug change will be a little bit of a process, any tips.

 

Congrats on your recent purchase of your Tripple Black "08" GT. Regarding your spark plug change, if your "08" was built before Nov/Dec of 2007? you'll more than likely have the older style 16mm high thread plugs which are a 2-piece design that are well known for separating/breaking during the removal process. If your car was built between Nov/Dec of "07? your car has the Ford re-designed heads along with the revised 12mm 1-piece spark plugs. How to tell which spark plugs you have is by looking at your coil pack boots, if the coil boots are black? you have the old style 2-piece spark plugs. If the coil boots are brown? you then have the re-designed, standard 12mm 1-piece spark plugs. If it turns out you have the old style plugs? just make certain that you follow the Ford recommended spark plug extraction procedure and you should be able to remove them without breaking. In the meantime, I've included a pdf link for the Ford TSB which provides step by step instructions for removing the plugs. Best of luck and welcome to TMS.

FYI: If your car was built on 2/08? you have the brown coil boots. If your car was built before Nov/Dec 2007? you would have the black coil boots. The Ford part # for the black coil boots is 3L3E-12A366-CA (2005-mid 2008 models) The Ford part # for all mid/late 2008-2010 models with brown coil boots is: 8L3E-12A366-AA

More than likely, you were looking at just the coil packs rather than the coil boots. In order to tell which color boots you have, you need to uninstall one of the coil packs. Once the coil is removed, you'll see the coil boot. Or you can also tell which coil pack your car has by the Ford part numbers that I provided.

Thanks for the info, I recheck and I do have brown coils I was only looking at the tops before which are black, so what makes the plugs not brake in the new design heads? Do you still follow the same tsb to change plugs. Thanks

 

The plugs in the new/redesign heads, take a standard 12mm one-piece spark plug. Therefore you do not follow the same TSB procedure for changing the new plugs. The TSB only applies to the old style 16mm high threaded 2 piece design. So you can go ahead and extract your spark plugs without fear of breaking or separating. Wish that I were as lucky as you are lol.

 

Thanks for getting back to me I appreciate the info, I have to get a new battery the one in there will be three years old in May, Ford said it was on its way out reconfirmed that yesterday at Advance auto parts, they said it could die at any moment, also going to change Differential fluid and trans fluid soon, and engine coolant, also need to flush out brake fluid. Did not get remotes with car ordered two new ones from E Bay came yesterday, boy that was an easy programming process.
