OK so what year did they replace the Pontiac 400 with the Oldsmobile 403, because they did indeed do that.

The cylinder heads were part number 500801 (the same as the 350 heads). Horsepower was bumped by twenty over the "base" Pontiac 400 motor and peak torque still equalled 325 lb/ft, but occurred 800 rpm higher in the rev range (2400 rpm). Engine ID codes for the T/A 6.6 were WV with a four speed and YG woth the automatic.

76 was the last year of the 455, 77 offered the 403 and the 2 400's.

Right, starting in 77 Pontiac offered *both* the 400 Poncho and the 403 Olds, the 403 was a California emissions engine, and the Pontiac 400 was the performance engine. I had a 78 Y88 Gold SE Trans Am with the 403, but had to wind up selling it. Congrats on the T/A...please post more pics when you can!!

I've always had a spot in my heart for T/A's, for the movie influence, that is! If you want even bigger torque and more compression, slap in some 305 heads. My friend has a .40 overbored 350 with this trick and his Malibu wagon sure woke up with that, along with an Edelbrock intake and carb, with a mild cam.

I planned out the custom dash panel, but I still need to find a 2 1/16'' diameter vent to complete it, plus I started tearing down the front end.

My list of to replace starts at:

nose cone
chin spoiler
driver side fender
cowl panel (inner)
rear passenger side floor board

thats all I've found for now...

Ugh, rusted floorboards. I really hate those. Have to gut all the interior to fix, but wtf it's to be expected on a restoration, lol.
Hope you don't find any other nasty surprise.
Anyway, have fun and good luck!

Please, don't do it. T-tops are more a hindrance than an improvement. They're leakers all the year round. Even the Corvette's T-tops were a POS.

No on the T-tops and looks like you've got some work ahead of you getting her all cleaned up. I'm sure you'll have her up to shape in no time! How does the trunk floor look?

yeah, the t-top thng is sorta a pipe dream...

the trunk floor is in over all good shape. There are a few pin holes starting on the passenger side where the quarter panel was replaced.

I got a fair amount of work, but for an Ohio car, its in relatively nice shape. It'll all be worth it though that first time I get to stomp the gas and leave a couple 12" black marks down the highway.
