I saw the beginning of an episode and the first thing that happened was they cut a guy's hand (or finger?) off. No thanks.

Yeah it is. And he was good on BL too. A little exaggerated how he always had the answers off the top of his head, but he pulls it off well.

Since that episode its more suspense less fingers. And they only use ketchup now.

I don't want to make that mistake and instill that in him early on.

Got my first job when I had just turned 14. Worked in addition to Football offseason, Orchestra, and all AP classes. Powerlifitng started at 6:30, then went to school, football practice from 3-6 or so, then got picked up, taken to work until the restaurant closed(which was 9 or 10 depending on the day), then had to clean my section, which was 30 minutes or so, then had to wait for my ride to pick me up.

That was ****ing exhausting.

My older sisters and I still joke (whine) about my Dad. He gave us an allowance in return for expectations of chores (and that garden from hell!). (Which is why I have no idea about comics and not much about Sat morn cartoons, etc). But as soon as it was 'payday', he'd always ask with that stern drill sgt voice "so what are you going to do with it?" The correct answer was "We know dad, put it in savings..." He was definitely "old school" (Dep kid).
That silly passbook savings habit as a kid has served me well. Always save a little bit - even during the toughest times. I am an excellent money/asset manager, and I excel at cash flow and debt mgmt.

But even when it came time to spend some (on dirt bikes), I had to do the ultimate sales job on him! "Features & Benefits!!" lol

Is it any wonder my career was in sales?

And explains that while I have some nice things (from saving up while scrutinizing what I wanted), I haven't just thrown money out the window on senseless things. Nor am I a mod freak.

So your plan has wisdom.

It's funny because I'm a little of both, if that's possible. Sometimes I just get the urge to splurge on sh*t I don't need. Well, mostly that was about 5-7 years ago, not so much anymore. Now I hate spending money, and lately I've actually had to spend a lot on repairs and stuff I don't want to spend on. Being an adult sucks!

Allowances? What is that? I never got allowances, only time I got money from my parents was New Years and if I needed something for school.
Yard work was something that was excepted of me ( mowing grass, picking up garbage, weeding, etc... ) also helping my dad "fix" stuff around the house.

I did get an allowance, but typically cut the grass, took out the garbage, etc. each week. I started mowing my parents' lawn when I was 12.

Passing the hours until Thursday so I can go pick up my car...it's gonna be a long day tomorrow.
