Without knowing the relationship you are describing, it is impossible to tell. Technically, your cousins cousin could be ......your own sister or brother.

I definitely set myself up. :P

Final Translation:

I found out today that a friend of mine, Chris, is my cousin.

It goes like this:

Chris is the cousin of CJ, who is the cousin of JD, who is the cousin of Chad, who is the cousin of Andy, who is the cousin of me, Cody.

One of my hobbies is genealogical research.

If this cousin is your mom's 1st cousin, then you and this cousin are "1st cousins once removed". The "once", "twice", "third" removed stuff refers to the # of generations different between the cousins. Your mom and this 1st cousin are of the same generation, but one generation separates you and this cousin, hence "1st cousins once removed"

If your mom's 1st cousin had children, then you and these children would be 2nd cousins (same generation). If you and your 2nd cousin had kids, both your kids would be 3rd cousins to each other (again same generation). In this last example your 2nd cousin's kid would be your 2nd cousin once removed (1 generation difference)

Hope this clears things up.

Haha, didn't answer my question, but that had already been done. At least I know about the "removed" stuff, now, though. Thanks!
