Im an Account Manager for an Offshore Production Chemical company. Basically we sell the chemicals that treat crude oil as it is produced on the platforms offshore. We have chemicals that break up emulsions of oil and water, clean the water, clean the gas, prevent paraffin buildup, corrosion prevention, scale deposits and many others.

Account Manager is a fancy shmancy way of saying chemical technician. Me and my relief go from platform to platform of the 11 platforms we support and make sure the chemical program is operating the way it should. The oil, water, and gas must meet certain specifications to be sold or deposited back into the environment. Oil and gas are sold obviously, and the water is deposited back overboard into the Gulf of Mexico.

Nah. I know a lot of sales managers. I really hate the business but I still miss it some.

 

When you work in any business you see the flaws in it.. no matter where you work.

 

Yeah but sales departments suck. Those guys spend way too much time there. Finance managers live there. It's not bad if the time away from home is not a problem.
