I learned on a 1990 Civic w/ a 4spd auto. I was 19 yrs old when I learned. I learned stick later, but was too much of a hassle with my huge feet. I could barely fit in the civic, just imagine the dad from The Incredibles and his tiny car.

I learned on my parent's 1987 Ford Aerostar, which I ran into the garage (knocked off a piece of the wall and some of the door). Our driveway is sort of up hill, so when I was gonna park it i let go of the gas on the way up hill and the van started going backwards, so I tried to hit the brakes but I missed and hit the accelerator instead

Then they sent me to a driving school where I learned on a 1992 yellow chevy sedan

'90 Ranger XLT 2.9L V6 5spd

I was 14 at the time. It was pretty frustrating at the time since I had never handled a vehicle prior to that. My family didnt own any autos so I learned in a manual. It all paid off I say
I learned all the "good&fun" stuff from my cousin shortly later

You should've seen my dad, pretty annoyed if you tell me LOL
I just hope I never have to teach anyone how to drive period, i'm not patient, perhaps less than my dad.

I learned to drive in a 92' ford econoline and a 86' BMW 325es. The first time I ever drove I had to drive down a mountian (in the van) while meeting lots of logging trucks, needless to say I was scared stupid.

A 96 Ford Explorer with a 5.0 in it. Probably the stupidest thing I did in it was when I took it to auto mechanics one day. I was trying to get it on the lift and you have to give it some gas to get it on the lift. That thing didnt really require gas but I was in there at an odd angle so I had to give it some gas. Only I gave it just a tad too much. I ended up hitting a bench vise that jumped out in front of me. I ended up sending the table it was hooked to about 3 feet in front of me. I was pissed off becuase everyone was saying I couldnt drive (we I actually can pretty dang good but everyone has a least 1 stupid accident). It ended up causing me to replace a headlight for $45. It was my mom's truck so she was a little mad but she was happy that I only messed up the light. After it sunk in I got to thinking about 'How the heck do you hit a bench vise?!' and it eventually became funny. One this is for sure I made one heck of an entrance and that is something that Ill never forget. BTW I also got a new nickname from the teacher 'Crash.'

Ill shut up now.

I initially learned in the "Brown Turd" a 1975 Chevy Nova. It had rust on the sides, a huge dent in the bumper where mom accidentally hit a pole (I got several looks from drivers parking that thing, because they thought I did it, and most undoubtedly felt uncomfortable). The vinyl seats had rips and tears in them, so mom laid down some homemade blankets that she knitted out of pink and white yarn (try explaining that to your friends). It DID fit 9 people comfortably, as it was the neighborhood taxi, until Jeff Thompson rolled with a 1971 Chrysler Newport. That thing held 11.

Then my uncle gave me his 1985 Honda Accord Hatchback. Not bad, except I had to learn manual. I was doing fine, after reading the users guide and watching dad. That is until he took me downtown, and I stalled at a light. THen I stalled getting out of KFC, and didn't try again until I was by myself. (I was always nervous driving around my dad, until about 7 years ago)

You guys know I'm older, as in 57, so it won't surprise you to hear that I learned in an old Nash Rambler vert with 3 on the tree, if you know what that means. Then when we moved to Japan (my dad was in the Navy) we had an old NSU Prinz. Check out the Guess the car thread--there's one on there. When it caught fire and died--the battery was under the rear seat--we got an old Datsun Fairlady. That was a 1200cc forerunner of the Datsun sportscar. Side curtains and all.

We still had a 59 Pontiac Catalina station wagon and you can't imagine how much fun that was to pilot around around the narrow roads and blind corners we had to drive. I've posted a few adventures I had in that boat, but if you missed them, I'm always up for a replay! Especially the one about the steamy windows on a Yokohama pier.

I learned on a 75 Ford Maverick automatic that I inherited from my Grandpa. Soon after learned to drive a manual on 80s Honda Civic. Manual trans has been my preference ever since.

i learned on my mom's 94 buick century and dad's 94 dodge dakota. got the hang of it pretty well.

i thought mom's 3.1 L v6 was quick, until I started driving dad's 3.9 L. that was the first time I learned how wet roads, torque and RWD don't mix well. also experienced fish tailing the truck for the first time

A 1984 Thunderbird.......My mother taught me, I got my learners permit when I was 15 back in 1998. This is the car I promptly totaled the day after I got my license. I was fiddlin with the radio, took a curve too fast ran off and hit a tree. I got a concussion. The kicker is I drove it home, parked it and didn't say a word.

Drivers Ed I learned in a K car. It was great, the instructor always needed cigarettes so we always got to stop at the shop a snack. Drivers ed was during school.

I learned to drive stick on a 1994 Ford Ranger five speed. That was a freakin adventure- hubby taught me, and I thought I would never learn.

I learned to drive on a 98 Mercury Mystique and a 1993 Subaru Legacy. The Legacy was a manual and my father insisted I learn how to drive it just in case. I'm glad he did, cause I bought my 87 GT which was stick and had a blast
