What camera gear do you guys use?
Noticed lots of topics revolving around what cameras are used when taking pics of the cars so I figured I would start one here. I use to have a Minolta Maxxum 7D. Great camera but once Minolta went under (sold to Sony) I bought a Canon XTi. I never buy the kits that come with the cheapo lenses. I picked up a 24-105mm f4L IS USM EF Lens, 100mm f2.8 MACRO USM EF Lens and a 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM EF Lens. After having the XTi for about 8 months I sold it and got a Canon 40D. This one is a keeper, at least for a little while.

Presently I'm using a Canon S2 IS (fancy fancy point and shoot) and my brother has loaned me his Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens. A good friend of mine's dad got a Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm lens, he's offered me the lens if I get a camera that can use it... so I'm looking into getting a D80.
Not a camera snob myself. I bought a real nice Sony a year or so ago but to be honest, I bought my wife a top line Casio point and shoot that I end up using far more because it's so much easier and smaller. Yeah, the Sony CAN take a better picture, and from what I've read, many pros actually DO use it, and love it, but between how hard it is on batteries, and the size of it, the Casio ends up going everywhere with us.
My wife has a Canon 3.2mp point for about 5 years now. It does a decent job but no matter how hard I try to get her a newer model she wants to stick with the one she has. Although hauling the 40D and my 2 main lenses around New York for 3 days was a bit of a pain, it was nice to know that I took over 900 pictures on a single battery without having to charge it. Then again, the slingbag I bought specifically for the trip ended up really throwing my back out. Not sure I will ever use that bag again.
For around the house snapshots and garage write-ups, I use a Canon PowerShot A560 7.1MP. Does a good job for what I need for that type of stuff. It's good to whip out and capture pics of the baby and pets. For my more professional work, I'm still using a Canon Rebel XT, though I plan to upgrade to either the XSi or 40D. For lenses I have a Sigma 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 and a Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6. It was a good camera to start with to get to know digital SLR's a little more (last SLR was a old Pentax film camera), but now I'm ready for something more. I'll probably end up with the 40D, or maybe even something in the Mark series, now that I'm looking at starting a studio. And more lenses, that's for sure.
I currently have just one strobe, a Vivitar 285HV. It's a great working strobe for the price. I'll probably pick up a few speedlights and pocket wizards once I get this studio going. I've got a silver reflective and white umbrellas.

You caught me at work before, so I couldn't give any specifics on my gear. Now home, my camera is a Sony DSC-H1. It's only 5.1mp but as I found by looking at some pro sites, the camera is well able to produce some stunning results. My wife's camera is a Casio Exilim EX-Z750. It's a 7.2mp point-and-shoot but I gotta say that between it's compact size, 2.25" LCD screen, VERY GOOD picture quality, and EXCELLENT battery life, the camera has won me over. I virtually never use my Sony. The Sony "can" take a better shot, and has a much stronger zoom but, I still never use it. I guess that tells you that I generally find convenience more important absolute picture quality.
I gotta say though, if you're looking for a compact, rugged, point-and-shoot that actually takes a helluva picture and has battery life that you **** near can't kill, take a look at Casio.

. I always liked their optics.Anyway, I used to be all Minolta until about 8 years ago, then I switched to Canon. Now I have all Canon EOS analog stuff along with a couple of zoom lenses. For digital pics I have a Kodak 4MP camera.
I'd love to get a new digital SLR body, but I love to spend my discretionary income on my car even more!
Hi guys here's a link I posted a while back if interested. Just my own experience maybe it will help

Two Sony's 1 is a DSC-F828 8 meg & video 2 differnt card slots, 2nd is a DSC-W200 12.1 meg that has a GPS mapper , so when it is on when ever you take a picture with the camera it will map it lat & longitude. so when you up load your pics in your pc it puts them all on a map great if one is travelling a lot.

i'm known as bit of a camera buff..I've been dubbed the "sniper" due to my unique action shots..
35mm SLR rig is a plain old late 80's Pentax K-1500, several macro/telephoto lenes, filters, etc. got the photo bug while in highschool. love it.
Digital rig is a Sony DSC-H1. bought it 6 years ago. Entry level digi slr aperature setting, white balance, and 12x optical zoom..takes really nice shots.. not too heavy, cradles and shoots like a 35mm and has an optional lense attachment.

Sup Jase , good to see you around
I started out with a Canon EOS 650 (35mm Film SLR) with a 35-70 and a 70-300 lenses that I bought on the wonderful deferred payment plan in the Army. My first digi was a Kodak DX7630 point n shoot 6.1mp which is still a great little camera but, a little bulky compared to todays offerings.
I finally broke down last year and bought a Canon Rebel XTi with a Canon 430EX flash, Canon 18-55, Quantaray 28-105 and Quantaray 70-300 lenses and a 2x Converter for the lenes thanks to a nice income tax return. Then a few weeks ago I bought a Kodak V1073 slimline point n shoot to replace the DX 7630. It's 10mp with a 3in touchscreen display.
I love them all (still have the old ones).

I have a pentax K10D and a Sigma DP1, the Sigma may only be 5 Megapixels but thats 5 completely used megapixels no bayer pattern like on most camera, and the Sigma can take photos that have more detail then my pentax which as double the megapixels.
Oh I also have a Canon G7 for those times you just want an all in one small camera, it's a great camera!
Photography is my other hobby besides my Stang

I had a Nikon D70 for a few years and it was great. Problem was all the accessories like lenses, filters, etc to carry around. I just wanted something smaller and less troublesome on vacation and at car shows. Someone at a show had a panasonic Lumix FZ-50 Super Zoom with 10 megapixels. I liked it and bought one after I sold the D 70. Looks like a DSLR camera and has a 12X zoom which is like having a bunch of telephoto lenses. Takes nice pictures and some newer cameras have an 18X zoom now. I also carry a compact 12 Megapixel camera-Lumix DMC-FX 100. Both these cameras have been very reliable and easy to use.
