Torque Wrenches

I'm looking for a torque wrench recommendation. I am looking for a decent tool, and would like to stay below $150. I had a craftsman that I broke today so I was really disappointed in it. The plastic handle broke and it just dangles and no longer clicks when you hit your torque. I probably only used the Craftsman 6 or 7 times.

I'm not a mechanic by trade, so I dont need Snap-on, Mac level of quality or price, and would probably only need to use it a few times a year.

So after a little research found this on Amazon. CDI Torque 1503MFRPH 1/2-Inch Drive Adjustable Micrometer Torque Wrench, Torque Range 20 to 150-Foot.

CDI seems to get really good reviews. Arrives this week!

I've heard the older Craftsman tools are better than the newer ones they have today. I only paid $40 for it little over a year ago, and the torque wrenches only have a 1 year guarantee. Would have liked for it to have lasted longer than it did, sucks that it pooped out on me.

Another Tool question for everyone: Cordless Torque wrenches. What would you recommend. I think it's time to look for one.

Unfortunately the Craftsman tools have become real bad quality. I had a old Craftsman torque wrench and it lasted me years. The new one don't feel as good or seem to be the same quality as some of the older stuff. I am so use to buying all craftsman stuff. I don't even know what to switch too. I'd like to get some Snap-On stuff.

I got one of these guys, works great.

I like how it has a locking collar instead of those screw in jam things at the bottom of a lot or torque wrenches.

Never saw a torque wrench with a cord. Are you talking about an electric cordless impact wrench?

Based on my limited use, I would say no it the Q isnt there anymore. I'm not a Craftsman hater either, most of my tools are from there, since I'm not a professional needing the high end stuff, they have served me well in my home.

The wrench was rated from 20-150 ft/lb and I was at 129. I could see it breaking if I were doing something stupid like 200 ft/lb.

I would love to have Snap-on or any of the high end brands, but I cant justify the cost. Hoping that the CDI is a good middle ground between price and quality, and will last a good many years.

lol. Yes thanks for understanding what I was really trying to ask. I'm looking to purchase a cordless impact wrench, and looking for recommendations on brands and sizes. What to look for when purchasing. I'm find the kits with battery, charger, and wrench arent terribly cheap around $270 entry level.

Oh I know I don't have anything snap on. Majority of my stuff is Craftsman, I just watch how the quality of the parts have been going down hill. I have bought 2 of the 260 piece tool set for Christmas, and in both sets the 1/4 ratchets were broken right out of the box. I was able to fix one by taking it apart and the other one I had to bring back.

Oh man your looking for a wrench under 150 bucks otherwise I'd recommend the Norbar industrial torque wrench.

Amazon.com: Norbar Model 200 Torque Wrench 1/2" Drive 40-200Nm 13046: Home Improvement Amazon.com: Norbar Model 200 Torque Wrench 1/2" Drive 40-200Nm 13046: Home Improvement

Its the best torque wrench brand I've ever used well worth the money.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I wont need another one, but will keep them in mind if I do.

I did end up getting the CDI, and it worked well for me. I put it through its paces today. Seems very well made, from what I read by the same company that makes Snap-on tools.

I like my digital snap on 1/2in torque wrench. But it was pricey as has been pretty much all my snap on stuff lol but I bought it when I was still in school and we had a huge student discount
