I am in Huntington Beach. We are staying HB, and we will be staying within walking distance to the beach. The noise is absolutely incredible... At 3am you get the morons racing thier rice rockets up and down PCH. Not a problem on the weekends, but when its a week night, then I have issues. Not to mention the helicopters CONSTANTLY overhead. Then you get the ones who park in front of our condo, turn on thier alarm, and leave for 8 hours. The trucks and harleys set the alarms off every 3-5 minutes, and then of course because they are still armed they continue to go off until the owner returns. We of course dont have AC, (Its HB!) and we do love the wonderful breeze coming right off the ocean... but, sitting on a literal highway really takes a lot of joy out it.

There are about three days a year when PCH is closed for the 8 miles of HB. THOSE are the heavenly times. You can hear the waves crashing on the shore, its incredible..
That's why I loved Carlsbad. Before my divorce I had a condo one block from the beach and at night I could hear the surf. Truly wonderful. The only time car alarms really went off was on the 4th of July when their was a fireworks barge just off the beach. Every rocket was followed by neighbor hood cars protesting!

K, here are some pics...

First, from the bed, looking out the northwest facing window (sorry we didnt wash our windows or balcony glass this week):
[attachmentid=30043]

then from the bed looking out the southwest facing window:
[attachmentid=30045]

then from the balcony itself:
[attachmentid=30046]

Gross! We really need to wash those windows! Salt air wrecks HAVOC on everything down here. I am SO GLAD my car at least gets to be parked inside, even if it is a common subterranian garage.

Edit to add: Locals, if you know HB that is the dog beach across the street..

Scottie, we actually wanted to move out to Carlsbad... but, I dont have full custody of my daughter, and I cant move anywhere that my ex doesnt approve. This was almost too far from him...

Its beautiful out there... We also go down to San O quite often, it would have been closer..

I would love to live that close to a coast (preferably on the beach).

Great pictures JR!

Out here there is only ONE place if you want to be on the sand. Its a VERY private community, and its been around for ever. Those condos are serisously in the millions to buy. Completely out of control. However, if you want to be on the sand... otherwise you have to go all the way south, to South OC.

I am going to take a pic tonight at sunset.

The other night the waves were glowing, it was really pretty.

Thanks... hard to believe I am going to willingly give it up!

While its gorgeous, its so NOISY, and DIRTY! If I could get that kind of view without the traffic, I would NEVER leave.

Couldn't do it. I would live in a closet if it was on the beach.

Jess, what a great view. We're 2 1/2 hrs from the Maryland shore and that's nothing close to what you get to see every morning.

We also live about 3 miles from an interstate highway and can often hear traffic noise, can't imagine what it's like living right on the PCH.

Wow, that is cool. I've probably driven by there before. We have a view also, if you stand on our roof.

I said the same thing... and so we rented a closet!

I am going to miss it, but will still be able to walk to the beach, so will still be close enough to hear the surf, and smell it, and not have to hassle a highway.

LOL!!! The stretch of PCH in front of us is very popular for sunday cruises on harleys, and we see some GREAT cars too. If you have lived in SoCal for any length of time, you have driven past my house at least once.

I lived in California for a year and a half in San Diego- It was beautiful, it was spectacular- I woulda enjoyed it a lot more if I was not broke the entire time. I absolutely could not afford to live there, and packed up to moved back east.
Home values in very desirable places are insane!

Now a closet I could visit any time I wanted......... Or a condo in LA(another place I love)
