Brenda,

I'm a little bit weird in that I have a bit more feeling in my Star Wars hobby than others. It's not just the "LOOK SPACESHIPS COOL!!!!" factor, I've read alot of the novels, and crazy though it may sound, I've learned alot from them. It's almost spiritual I guess you could say. Some people get tattoos of their various religions, which I personally regard as fiction, so I feel I'm doing about the same thing. Same amount of weight, same amount of personal meaning. I mean no disrespect to any religious members here, I have my own beleifs and philosphical views on life and I just think that getting a tattoo of a symbol of something that means alot to me shouldn't be dictated by the public conception of childishness in that symbol.

This probably sounds silly and childish to most of you, but thanks for sitting through it. If certain things aren't coherent, I apologize: I'm at work so this post was written in bursts and in a hurry.

Joel,

The LAST thing I want to be is drunk when I'm getting a tattoo, that never ends well lol

Doug,
The pirate one does look cool, but I have never seen anything cool done with the new design of the pony, and I wanted to combine my Star Wars/Mustang obsessions all at once. By now, I am deaed set on 10

I think i can throw my opnion in as someone who not only has tattoos, but some very nerdy ones.

I got my first tattoo on my 18th birthday, as a present from the artist. it is a great rite of passage, and my dad the same tattoo at the same time, was nice.

as far as nerdy tattoos, i have 3 that are Lord of the Rings related, and i love all of them.

my biggest advice that i have, that give to anyone getting thier first, or any, tattoo, is this: dont think "i want a tattoo" and then pick a design, you have to think "i love this design/idea/picture/thingy" and then decide you want it as a tattoo.
that to me is the big differance between people who always love thier tattoos, and those who dont.
and for anyone who says "what if you dont like this/that in 10/15/40 years?" i always say that tattoos are bookmarks in your life. you always remember why you got it and what it meant to you then. nothing in life is worth forgetting, because it all makes you who you are. for me, i am proud of all my experiences, and that is why i have tattoos. i want people to ask why i got one or the other, even when the tattoo represents something hard for me like a friend or family member passing. then there are the ones that are less emotional, but no less important. ok, my Lord of the Rings tattoos, or your Star Wars one, may not be the most important tattoos to get, but if it means enough for you now, then there is no reason to ever forget it.

edit: sorry if i seem all over the place in this post, i just have a deep love for tattoos and like to explain to anyone i can why i and other people get them and how they have become and in many cultures have always been so important

I like 2 better than 10. See what your artist can do before you decide on anything. I think I have posted mine before. If not, here...

Great advice.

Only thing, this is the only tat I will share. My others are very personal and for only the closest people in my life. Great post overall!

Thanks for the advice Alex. I can see what you mean, but this is more than just wanting a tattoo. I've wanted to put that symbol on my car in the past, and i've always though it looked really cool. I even find myself drawing it all over the place, including my own self. It's not something typical like a star or a heart. I just really like it, and tying it into mustangs just makes it a bit cooler for me

Dave

That's pretty freakin sweet. I like the fade Nice to know I'm not the only geek around here.

Good luck with your tat Joel. Just know, a pro tat artist will not do that tat while you are drunk. You bleed more then. I didn't realize how personal the star wars thing is so I say "Go For It"! Make sure its on a meaty part of your bod. The only one of my three that hurt a teeny bit, was around my ankle, on the bone. Post pics after you get it!

i would reccomend sticking with 1. i think having the color of the symbol really drives the star wars theme home. but i think adding something else in the middle of it takes away from the tattoo itself.

i hoever will be placing this one on my back:

no i am not serious, but i laugh everytime i see it

That would be pretty cool. I don't think I could do both though. I mean then I'd have to put a bowtie in the middle of the Imperial Crest just to balance it out lol.

As for an update, I'm going in about two weeks to a place called Rubins in Millbrae with a friend of mine. She just got a butterfly done two days ago and will be going back for touchups, and neither of us have 6th periods so I'll just go with her

you pay your friends for gas!!!??? When I was in high school, I carted everybody around, and was rarely offered any compensation. I always said I should have bought a limo instead of a mustang

Well since I got grounded my buddy has been carting me home after school in his M, I usually just treated him to fast food lunch for that but when we drive long distances in his 460 F250, its pretty mandatory that I pay him for gas. That thing chugs! 10mpg on a good day.

I spent alot more time thinking and designing and I finally got it done today

Its different from what I thought my first design would be but I'm very happy with it, and with the service I got.

Now all you need to do is start polishing those guns to get that shoulder nice and big to show it off.
