Taking a moment to be a proud dad
This past Friday my son graduated Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He'd asked me prior to leaving in December if I would be his 1st salute at his commissioning, to which I readily agreed. However, since my retirement 5 yrs ago I found that my uniform had "shrunk" considerably! I had to shed just a "few" lbs, but I managed to fit back into it. Being able to stand up there & give him his 1st salute was quite an honor. Everyone on here who served will know what I'm talking about.

He's going to be a Supply Corps officer, so he goes to supply school for the next 6 months. His class will pick orders sometime in the 2nd half of the school. He's hoping for either submarine duty, or to go to one of my ships.
