Holy Jesus.
This freaking thing nearly bit me. And when I mean nearly, I mean it had its mouth open with my left leg inches from it.
I stepped out the back door for a smoke and here it sat waiting to eat me. My throat hurts from screaming.......
It was killed because I walked out the back door and it was curled up to strike with its mouth open, and it stayed there waiting. We tried to scare it off, but it wasn't having it.
Copperhead right?

Copperheads are venomous, pit vipers. Copperheads account for more cases of venomous snake bite than any of our other species. Fortunately, their venom is the least toxic of our species. Bites from Copperheads are very seldom fatal; however, a bite may still produce serious consequences.
They aren't usually fatal, but I sure would not wanna be bit by one!

My back porch is my favorite place I spend most of my time out there........I TRIED to go out there this morning but got shaken up. It was waiting there with its freaking mouth open. AND now in death it curled up in the "snake" position.
I couldn't even get to sleep last night, we cracked open the kitchen window and looked down- it was freaking waiting on me to come back out so it could bite. Someone pissed it off.
Jesus christ, I moved to the suburbs to get away from this mess, not to get into it.
Their bites require a trip to the ER for devenoming. NOT something I want to do.
I hear mothballs repel snakes.
Anyone know how to keep em out? We have had TOO much rain, and there is a drainage ditch down an embankment seperating my property from the property behind me.

putting moth ***** out around your house is supposed to work. We do it on our property just because we live in the woods, havent seen many snakes so I cant say for sure if thats what is keeping them away or not.
Copper heads are nasty bites, but like posted above, usually not fatal, but i am sure if you had a allergic reaction to the poison, it could be deadly serious for someone.

We threw it in the drain ditch out back...It landed and looks like a freaking live snake.
Brian mashed its head with a pencil and its nasty curled fangs popped out.
I hope the construction crews go to pee in it today, they will get a shock(I have seen many private parts since being here)
My neighbor said use Lime to remove them, so I am using lime and mothballs
HEY- has anyone ever smelled Mothballs?

Kill it or be killed or injured. If it were in my yard, I would have let it live, but it was on my patio, where I spend MAJOR amounts of my time.
Down here in Bama, we have lots of poison snakes-and when you go take their habitat away, like this development did- they get pissed off. This is but one, and one of the more aggressive breeds.
As well, it was nearly midnight, and animal control wasn't going to come remove it at that time of night.
They get hungry and aggressive and unlike garters and black snakes, which I have been known to play with, they bite to kill or seriously hurt.
I have children and dogs, and they play back there, so it was not a choice to go and ****** it up and release it elsewhere.

You may want to try and spread garden sulphur around. You can get it at most farm supply places. We are loaded with copperheads and timber rattlers. We had like 17 copperheads nested under a large rock by us and since I have spread the sulphur under it - none. Only problem will be rain washing it away

I have actually cut down to about half what I smoked before......
I am trying the gradual cutdown method, seems to be working.
Effing snake. I got some lime, and mothballs for his friends.

If it were out in the yard- give it ten feet or so.........All creatures out there get to live in peace. My immediate hanging out area- my back porch, front porch and flower gardens+garage....must be things that can kill me free- I killed 3 black widows out there too.
It was killed instead of ignored because it struck at me when I walked outside, then it waited and struck again when my hubby opened the door to see what I was curled up in a ball hysterical and screaming about.
That is also the door my children use to take the dog out, and the door they leave out of to go play in.
Heres my handy little illustration
