My wife is asking me what I want for my birthday/xmas, both in December. I will more than likely get both (LOL!!!) but the other probably not till January or Feb.

So...given that, what say you?

Some food for thought:

PS4/Xbox1, I can use during winter. My "love" for everything cars, be it detailing or actual modding is reduced to ZERO during the snow months. So I thought it would be a great idea to be able to play Forza or Need for Speed during those months to keep me going. LOL.

I currently have an Escort 9500ix which I use primarily on Marilyn. For my daily driver Acura, Tori uses an older Escort 8500 (the constant beeps for a non GPS unit drives me nuts). Since I don't drive Marilyn in Winter, I "could" make do by transferring the 9500ix temporarily to my Acura, which is easy enough. Then come spring if/when I get the Passport Max2, I could install that in Marilyn.

So anyways... what say you? The prices should be similar, around ~$600. The PS4/Xbox1 are 499, but add a couple games and controller, you're at 600 too.

Get Xbox one and that way we can play forza and I'll kick your @ss! Lol. But seriously, Xbox one is a total package, gaming and entertainment.

 

isn't PS4 the same way???? both are 499, both require online subscriptions to play, and both are multimedia (streaming, netflix, bluray, etc)... Right? or what am I missing?

 

you're right. They both have it all. Xbox has connect, which makes this more interactive. Plus you have certain games like Forza and Halo. Plus, IMO, Xbox live is just overall better than PlayStation online.

 

Definitely get a new console and hold off on the new radar detector. Between the consoles, I'd go with Xbox ONE. The Kinect just gives it so much potential. It's unfortunate that people just don't see that.

 

Allow me to help you make up your mind:

 

Holy cow. That's 3 of you for xbox. And that vid trailer for Forza looks amazing. Is that in game video or just cut scenes? Sometimes they dupe you with those lol. What other xbox exclusive titles are there? I was thinking if I get the xbox1 I'd get destiny and Forza.

How about the wii U? We were thinking about getting that for our 6 year old. Thoughts?

not sure about a whole lotta exclusive games, but I heard Destiny is amazing. And Forza is never a let down. Horizon is more of an open world driving game, where forza motorsports 5 is racing oriented.
You have as many child oriented games and stuff with Xbox kinect as you do the wii u I think.

 

Excellent points Sean. It's been so long since I bought a game system nor have I had time to play much since we started having kids. Now that they're a little older I have had some more time to play again, and I missed it. Also being able to play with him is another plus. Weekend game nights are awesome!!! (No playing during week for him due to school! Hehe) So I feel like I've been away from the gaming world a long time.

So what titles are good for kids on the xbox 1? We like the 4 player stuff like rayman legends and Mario kart that we can all play simultaneously.

 

To be quite honest, I have no idea besides the few you mentioned. I don't play a ton anymore, and when I do it's mainly forza and call of duty. I don't have an Xbox one yet but I'll be getting mine in November.

 

Having played both consoles xbone is much better. Play station network blows and is about as intuitive as a nuclear weapon. PS supposedly has a little better graphics, but I think that's more to do with the game developers than the console.

It's very similar to apple vs android to me. Xbone is apple with its sleekness and simplistic design/gaming. PS takes the nod as android, possibly more capable, but not as easy to work with.

 

I'm not much of a gamer anymore. PS3 in the living room, mostly used as a blue ray player and XBOX1 in the game room. My daughter loves to play minecraft. As far as the Max goes, I really like it over my current 9500IX. Being able to set a speed warning alert seems nice and I like that it shows your speed. Just wish it had the feature Valintine offers which lets you know from what direction they are hitting you.

To be honest, I haven't been playing very many games on the Xbox. My attention span is way to short nowadays, and I've been sticking to watching movies/tv shows.

I am looking forward to Forza though, and thinking about getting a wheel/pedals for it.

 

Speed warning? 9500 will show your speed as well.

But yes, your comparison to the iphone and android phone is easy for me to relate to. I used to be an android guy until I had to return the phone 3 times for it not working. The iphone I much prefer, since it's simple to use and ALWAYS works. Given that, I'm swaying towards the "Xbone" lol... Not a single one of you has chimed in yet that has recommended the PS4. Interesting.

Yes... 2 points to bring up. The 9500ix also displays speed. It's GPS based, with database for cameras, etc. I love it. Max has better range, features, and display. As for the arrows of Valentine, yes, I think it's nice, but in the end, do we/should we care WHERE it's coming from? Bottomline, if it beeps, what do we do? Slow down. Regardless of source direction... right? I mean, it's a nice to know, I guess. But still.

Yeah the graphics are killer.

So far, I'm leaning towards XB One!

I've seen it for $439 at Walmart with Destiny! Anything better than that? Should we get it now before the holidays? Or will there be a better deal at that point?

 

Only when it's going off will it show your speed. The max shows it constantly.

 

PS4 first. Wait for a while on the Xbox1. MS just fired the Xbox and windows 8 teams for putting out a crappy product that did not meet the streets expectations nor the consumer. MS is now contemplating selling Xbox. Sales are in the toilet. PS4 has sold 4 times the Xbox. Enough tech info. My kids and there friends have the PS4 I don't play them.

The radar you have is up on the top end. The new Max is good only if you want the connected features if not keep what you have.

Get the ps4, the xbox 1 is uber glitchy and it's not just mine, a couple people I've spoken to also seem to have the same issues. ( gets stuck loading, etc...)

Toad, maybe I'm misunderstanding you. What I'm talking about is the actual speed at which you are travelling (i.e. same as your speedometer). The 9500ix displays this ALL the time. You can change your display/menu to do this. This is how mine is set up. Had mine for a couple years.

The Max does this too, obviously.

Uh oh... glitchy? You actually see it getting stuck and stuff? Man, that's not good. My PS3 was great for the most part. As for the detector, it will be a "2nd" one. I don't plan on getting rid of any. It just reduces my need to transfer them from car to car. We have 3 vehicles.
