Keep us posted Nate. I've never had a complete stranger in my thoughts as much as now. Seems I keep logging in to TMS, to check this thread in hopes of good news. I know when I was in the hospital w/ my son, I'd take random internet breaks to help deal w/ the emotions.

thank you guys so very much. as of this morning things were continuing to get worse, they went into another surgery, opened him up to look at things, and added a larger cathider to his leg so that the dialisis machine can be used. he handled surgery great! he is a really tough little guy. my wife and i are emotionless as we wait for any good news about our son. soon they will hook up the dialisis machine and we can see if it will help to remove these bad things from his blood. its too acidic, co2 levels are up too high and his potassium is over the 7 mark. he is less than a point away from heart failure. we can only pray that the dialisis machine can help correct things. there is a long road ahead of us. thank you all so much for being here for me and my wife.

today things got a little better. they were able to go back in and clean out his abdomen of the excess blood and relieve some pressure and were able to get the dialysis machine to work. his blood is looking much better now. potassium level is down to 4.9 which is normal, and his gasses are closer to normal. thank god for some real progress on this long down hill slide. he is now slowly getting better. i am able to smile now thinking that there may be hope for my son and that he may survive all of this trauma.

Nate, my prayers are with you and your wife and son as you go through this difficult and emotional time. If it makes you feel any better I was a preemie too (2lbs, 5oz) and I'm now 44 years old. I'll keep the doctors and staff in my prayers too as they work to keep things improving. Sometimes it takes difficulty in life to keep you centered on what's truely important and what isn't. Please keep us updated when you can

things are looking better yet! his swelling has gone down tons and his ventilator has been turned down. his blood is looking way better. He peed 5 cc's!!!!! its amazing. he has started a little twitch with his right arm, they may test to see if he is having little seizures, they are going to keep watching him and see what happens.
keep praying guys! everything is starting to finally come around.

Nate,
Just read this thread. My prayers are with you. I assume he was born at Erling Berquest. My daughter was born there (I'm a former 55th WG member). She also had a couple of birth defects (nothing as serious as your son), so I kinda know what you're going through.
God Bless you and your family, and hang in there

they stopped deliveries at the base hospital. everything is contracted out now, its either midlands, creighton or the unmc. they downgraded the hospital to a clinic and now most operations are done at the civilian level.
he is doing better! he will be getting switched to a smaller ventilator maybe tomorrow, and they are turning off the dialysis to see how he handles it on his own tonight.
