WHats that urban legend about pink floyd and the wall? Something about someone going nuts? Its been a great debate around here for a few days, and I can't find it on google.
going nuts?
well, there first vocalist, syd barrett, went nuts. we was sent to a mental institution. all the drugs he did literally sent him to the nut house.
but i dont know about the connection with the wall.
the song, shine on you crazy diamond, was a sort of tribute to Syd
"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond"
he was their vocalist and guitarist in the piper at the gates, a saucerful of secrets, and ummagumma

Thats it.
THANKS! COOL.
The legend was the guy in the wall was based on the guy in pink floyd who went nuts.

You talking about Pink, the character?
Yeah, that character was based around Syd.
The Wall idea was based around the band's connection to the crowd. It was exemplified in their live shows where the wall was erected right in front of them, and they played the second set almost completely behind the wall. I think it all started when some of their fans were literally spitting at them when they were on stage a few years before they recorded The Wall. It had to do with the downer of being famous and the same perils that drove Cobain to 'kill himself.'
Yeah, though, Pink was a rock star who had so many fans, but no real friends and no real love in his life, which drove him utterly crazy.
The Pink Floyd with David Gilmour at the helm once wrote a song about Roger Waters kinda like how they wrote Shine for Barrett. Very dramatic stuff.
