Ok gaming geeks, I have a question!

I'm thinking about a PS3 now that Sony has decided to abruptly stop making any decent games for the PS2.

I'm a casual gamer, and I mean like maybe a couple hours of Gran Turismo on the weekend and such, so my question is:

Is the 40GB PS3 going to be fine for me or is the 80GB a better deal?

I'm not going to be doing any downloading, online gaming, or anything else of that sort. I'll just be using the BluRay player for movies and playing a few games, but that's it really.

Thanks for the input.

How important is the ability to play PS2 games on the PS3? The 80gb can, as it has backwards compatibility, but much like the XBox 360 low end system, the 40gb model does not have backwards compatibility.

Basically, $100 gets you backwards compatibility, Motostorm, and 40gb more of space, plus media card readers for photos and such. Other then that, the two units are identical.

If you do get one, hook it up online, even if you only use it for the PSN store. There are a lot of free game demos and such on it, including Grand Turismo HD. Plus some cheep games like Tekken.

Well, I have a PS2 so backwards compatability isn't an issue. I'm not going to uploading pics or vids or anything.

As for playability and graphics, is the 40 GB unit slower or have lesser graphics?

If not, you've answered my question completely!

well....I would try and sell or trade in my PS2 along with controllers and such...(keep the games I still like and play)...take that and get the 80G PS3..I'm in the same boat, and thats what I will do once prices get cut on them at least another $100.

I'm waiting for Gran Turismo 5 or GTA 4 to come out. Then I'll probably buy PS3. I'm planing to keep my PS2.

What exactly is 40 or 80 gb? Is that memory space for saving games or something else? Since I heard that GT5 will have an option to download cars from the web, I'm planing to do that. So will I be able to do that with 40 gb version?

Every PS3 is the same as far as the graphics and central processor. Making different versions would be suicide, as game developers would no longer have a standard platform to target and program for. Every PS3 can download content, assuming you have a broadband internet connection.

The 40 and 80gb refers to the hard drive space in the machine. The PS3 uses the disk for save games, downloadable games, music videos and photos you store and some caching to make games load faster. Downloadable cars and such for games will take up very little space, likely only a few megabytes each. One gigabyte is a thousand megabytes, so plenty of room for things like that.
