This stuff blows.
I spent the day plugging drafts.

I kick the day I said- where is the Heat Pump, and the builder said: ITS GAS. :bang:

Spring looms!

Our new heat Pump rocks. $200 TOTAL electric bill for heat and all other electricity for a 2800sqft home that was built in 1918 .. :P

Replaced Gas unit that was at least double that same time last year.

Sooo.. Basically, the heat cost us $80-$90 this year as opposed to $400 last year on gas. I'd have hated to see what it would have been now.

Tell Me about it.
Last Winter I kept my heat on 76 or so, and the Electric bill was never more than 200.

This Year My Electric bill is $100, but the gas bill is $250!! :bang:

Remember- I am not Alagasco.(small favors)
I am City of Calera, those Crooks.

OOPS too many houses being built- we need to raise rates. holes.

In the summer its sweet living here.

I did insulate my POS back door the Illegals didn't hang right. That made a world of difference. And I insulated the utility room door that goes to the horse house. Now no drafts, so I turned the freaking furnace down.

Tomorrow back to the 60s! And only another five weeks or soo before winter can kiss my crack goodbye until December.

The "problem" is that the Sub-Tropic jet stream is coming up in to North America (its bulging up into Texas, then flows out thru the southern states).

Normally, during winter, the Sub-Tropic jetstream goes south and the Polar jetstream dips down into the southern states. And visa-versa during summer (Polar retreats north, and Sub-Tropic follows). For whatever reason, this has not happened this year. So the Sub-Tropic jetstream is bringing warm air. When we have the cold snaps, its because a cold front manages to push through, but then a few days later we warm up 'cause of that jetstream.

Supposed to start snowing here again soon.

Then warm again.

But, winter doesn't necessarily end in Feb. At least for us.

It'll still be cool then warm then cool for awhile.

IN the summer with AC.
Because I depise being cold.
It puts me in a pissy mood.
Like right now- 71 in this house sucks. :bang: So I have been hibernating in the office upstairs which is attic warm.
Course till I get bored- cause the office is a mens lair.

Last year I set the house at 68 which I consider to be quite comfortabe for me, plus the fact that I'm somewhat warm blooded. On the colder days I've actually used the burners on the stove to help out(it's a glass top) its amazing how much heat they put out and I still believe Im saving money by using electric, I forsee that people will be looking into back into electric heat if these high gas prices continue

We keep ours on 70, and it stays plenty comfortable. Any warmer and I would suffocate probably.

I use propane...I'm capped at $1.30 a gallon, when the first bill came, I paid a $1.30 a gallon, that bill was almost $500 smackaronies. I've heard of people round here paying over $2 a gallon plus...! The company I deal with now is a family run business and there very fair with there prices. I dont know how people on a fixed income or a tight budget do it, its ridiculous. Someone, somehow, needs to step in and get a grip on this problem...especially when these major gas companies are reporting RECORD PROFITS! I could swallow the higher bills if they were breaking even....but making record profits to me mean there just stickin it to us...there getting rich and driving the rest of us into the poorhouse. :ranting: Hope this is'nt considered thread hijacking.....
