New MB rims for wife's car

I knew if I put the word "Prius" after "wife's..." most of you would laugh or not read it. Lol. But I guess this is more about the rim quality and how impressed I was with Discount Tire Direct than anything.

Reason why I got them is because beginning of winter, I bought her 4 Firestone winterforce tires (great stuff by the way) so I mounted them on the stock oem steel wheels with the stock hubcaps. So obviously I have the 4 rimless oem tires sitting in my garage waiting for spring. Rather than pay to mount and unmount etc... I figured I'd just buy her a new set of 4 rims. Was going to get her another set of steel wheels with hubcaps, but the price for those are still relatively high. Figured I'd be nice to her and get her some decent rims.

Rims are MB Interlines, 16x6.5, 45 offset for all 4. They are the stock size, so they will work for the oem tires. The purpose of the rims is not to look sporty or fancy (too much), esp since that's not the car's purpose or my wife's personality. I wanted something that looked good, of good quality, and relatively low price. I figured these rims fit the bill. They're a gunmetal gray rim, with a machined face.

This is the first time I've ever bought an MB rim and the first time I've seen one up close. Wow, I'm impressed with the quality. Any of you with MB rims out there? They rival my oem tsx and oem mustang rims in terms of quality. They really are very nice. No rough spots, no scratches, etc... They were also extremely well packaged, with booties covering each rim that is wrapped in plastic wrap and individually boxed. Again, impressive. I would not hesitate to have bought a different style/size MB rim for my mustang or tsx. My Niches are probably better for sure but not by much.

As far as Discount Tire Direct, I was also impressed with their customer service during the order. Extremely helpful and cordial, no long waits, had all the data, and really easy to work with. This is the 2nd time I dealt with them, after my Acura winter rim purchase. I would even venture to say much easier to work with than tire rack at a much lesser price (they gave me a really good deal). Included all hardware and free shipping also. I ordered on Thursday and it arrived today (Monday) at lunch.

I also ordered a TPMS set for it, and will have my trusted shop mount the tires and TPMS and marry the TPMS system, hopefully this week or weekend.

Anyways, just thought I'd share my experiences with discount tire direct and also that I'm really happy with the MB rims (so far). I'll post more pics come spring.

Attached are pics of everything... Including packaging etc... Also close ups of the rim. These are just iPhone pics, no Nikon.

Fwiw, my wife is really happy. Maybe she just got jealous of my niches lol

Glenn, I really mean it when I say these rims were really nice. I mean, sure, they're not "forged" or anything... but for a daily rim that should hold up to the elements, I've seen a lot of rims, and these are really built well. I was shocked actually. I was expecting some build defects, scuffs, bad packaging, etc. I've bought a few rims in the past that cost more than that, and I've seen defects. This one was painted and clearcoated smooth throughout the entire rim, especially the back side.

I would have considered these rims (albeit a larger size and diff't design) for Marilyn had I known of the build quality.

I guess I can only speak to this specific model (Interlines), but I would assume the build quality are just as good on any MB line. Does anyone know where these things are built??? My Drag DR34's for my TSX are Korean/Chinese I think. They're "ok" at best.

LOL Shiaz... "honey, if you let me buy this Supercharger, I'll get you these GORGEOUS rims for 1/6th the price!!! What a deal huh?"

Words to live by Shiaz... happy wife happy life.

Also, never underestimate the importance (and need) of a "man stash". That is, a cash bucket that only you know about. Now HOW you get the funds to fill that man stash is another topic for another day

Yeah don't do that lol. I worked on her for almost 2 years on that . I essentially whittled her down on it.

Nice looking wheel.
We are talking about a prius. A sledgehammer could make it look better.

Yay!!! I got the wheels and tires mounted! All I have to do now is wait for roads to clear up, bolt the wheels/tires on car, and get TPMS re-married.

Crap, wait... I still have to Opticoat the rims. I forgot. Will do that before mounting.
