need computer help
i am unable to save online picutures in any other format than bitmap.
i looked it up online.
possible causes i found online:
not enough space for temporary internet files, cache is full: not it (i always clean out the internet temp files and i even made the capacity for temp files larger).
the "do not save encrypted pages" option is checked: not it (went into the advance tab and it wasnt checked)
this is the one i can't figure out: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978
there is a damaged/unknown downloaded program file... which i do have! one of each actually.
i follow the steps to delete the files, but when i right click on the programs i do not get an option to delete them, just a properties option, which leads to just information.
does any one know how i can delete these files?! help!!! PLEASE!!!
using IE8 and windows vista

I'm assuming that you've tried it in the My Computer or Explorer and aren't getting anywhere.
First, be sure you have the right Rights to the file and/or folder. You may need to take ownership or change the Rights on the file.
Second, it may be in use, and that's going to lock the file. Safe mode might be easier to deal with things.
Now, if nothing works in Windows, there's the back door way of things... the way of the Command Prompt...
---
Get the file names, and the folder they're in. (example: C:\downloads\badfile.brk )
Start, Programs, find Command Prompt, RIGHT CLICK IT, and click on 'run as administrator' Yes, there is a difference.
Navigate to the folder and delete the file. For the example above, type these in:
C:
cd \
cd downloads
del brokefile.brk
Then type 'exit' to get out of the command prompt when done. Only do this after you've deleted the files in question.
Scared about deleting files? Rename them instead:
rem brokefile.brk brokefile.yyy
If the file cannot be deleted there are two to three reasons (vista and 7 adding the third)
1) The file is in use. Try doing this in safe mode (reboot, tap f8 until a menu shows up, pick safe mode)
2) The file is attributed as System, Hidden, and/or Read Only. Use: "Attrib filename.ext -s -h -r" after navigating to it. This will strip the problem attributes.
3) The file is in an inaccessible folder in windows Vista or 7. More to the point, the folder is a *ghost* folder, and actually points somewhere else... this can be tricky, but this might help:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...les-or-folders
There ya go... if those don't work, then it's time to consider saving your data and restarting the system from scratch. An in place upgrade might also work, or maybe a reinstall/repair of IE8.

hey houtex,
is there a way to find out the file names?
they are cut off short in the downloaded files properties windows. even if i extend the file name area, it doesn't extend with it.
