Exclamation Name in profile

Alot of us have been on these boards and know each other from PM's etc. I would like to recommend that everyone put their first name in their profile so we could call each other by name when answering a question etc. My name isn't really GRAYPNY, it's Rich.

It doesn't help. I get called names with or without the name on the profile and they usually never match either.

Dear Rich,

I agree. Those that have nothing to hide and are the most constructive additions to any forum usually have no issues telling you their name. Now that said, anybody shows up at my house better come bearing gifts.

Sincerely,

Heck, I say add the location too. It's great if you see someone local you can shoot a PM for a local event, etc. Every time I see an Ohio plate in a pic, my first thought is " Wonder what city they're in?"

I think that information got deleted from the profile as well as our car info when the forum upgrade happened. I know I had to go back and put all my info back in again. I've noticed a lot of others haven't.

Not knowing a person's car when they post something drives me more nuts than not knowing their name though.

Hello. My name is.....
Adrenalin

Just an FYI. Years ago (back in 98) I was being followed for over an hour by a car load of people. I was getting mad so as soon as I saw a cop I drove up to him and the car took off. The first thing he said was "what's with that car over there". I told him what they were doing so he told me to stay where I was and he went after them. 20 minutes later he came back and they insisted they knew me. They knew my first name but not my last, nor could they describe me. He gave me the drivers address so I stopped in and paid him (and his parents) a visit. Ends up that he saw my name posted on another forum and thought it would be "cool" to act like he knew me in front of his friends.

I think putting your first name and city is a good idea. I've been doing it for years. Heck, most of my last name is up there somewhere.

I agree, it's always important to protect yourself, but I think there's just a few Justins in the world. When I think about all the sites that require your info, and who they are selling it to, this place is the least of my worries.

Adrenalin, that is messed up, and I can see where you'd feel like not giving your name out. I personally don't feel like I'm taking a big risk here, but I might very well change my tune if something like that happened to me. Stalkers creep me out.

My username is on my license plate; that's how most people know me. If anyone would like to stalk me be aware that I support 2nd Amendment rights.

Same here. My username is on my car, and my permit is in my wallet.

Well, there goes the element of surprise.
