Alright, this may seem silly, but it's a big delimma. I love Pink Floyd. I physically own six of their albums, and have a limited amount of money that can be put towards the rest. I do, however, subscribe to Napster, and they offer the band's whole library, minus about five songs that they make you pay for. When I first got Napster, I told myself that I wouldn't download anything by the Floyd, because it didn't seem right, and was un-like something a true fan would do, but now, it's killing me. I haven't gotten a new CD since the end of January (The Division Bell), and I am dying to hear Meddle! What should I do?!

I'm paying $15 a month for Napster, which in turn gives me the ability to legally download as many songs as I want to in that one month, and keep them as long as I continue to subscribe. I just have this thing about wanting to buy the actual CD, and getting everything that comes with it, instead of downloading all of it. So, I'm asking whether or not I should download it.

 

What medium do you use to listen to it? I "legally" obtain all of my music. I dont have any moral issues. Apparently its quasi-legal in Canadia though, so the po-lice cant do anything.

 

make an exception and buy that CD,, if your paying 15 a month another 15 for the CD is not a big deal.
by the way i don't use napster well not anymore (i used it in its glory days but thats another subject) you said you can "legally download as many songs as I want to in that one month, and keep them as long as I continue to subscribe." does that mean if you cancel the subscribtion you cant listen to the songs anymore? what format are they wma?? or someother format.. can you burn them to a CD

 

Or, you can download the Floyd you want right now so that you can listen to it untill you save up the cash for the actual CD.
I agree with you about wanting the original CD with booklet and all. I'm the same way, I like to own the originals. But I do download any obscure songs that may be on soundtracks or japan bonus tracks etc. That way I don't have to buy an entire soundtrack just for 1 or 2 songs.

 

They're protected WMAs, so I can't listen to them if I don't have Napster to update the licenses every month.

 

I think I'll just do this, and ask for the original CDs for Christmas, or some other celebratory / giving holiday. Thanks!

 

seriously...thats such a rip off. I will never use napster if thats the case.

 

how about burning them to CDs, cd-r are cheap now, and that way you can always listen to them and u can also convert them back to mp3, it sucks that you pay for music u don't own. thats what i would do anyways if i used a service thats ripping me off

 

You bought 6 floyd albums and pay Napster $ 15 a month.
You've paid enough.
The rip off is with the Producers charging $15+ a CD, that costs $2 to make. Also see Gas Prices.
Do what 199 suggests or rip the MP3s off the Net.

I would burn them to CDs, but they won't allow me, I don't believe, and even if I could burn them, they won't play without Napster-approved licenses, and I'm fairly sure that I wouldn't be able to convert them. I will try, though!

 

burn them as an audio CD NOT as a data CD (from what i read you can burn them to cds) after burning them to an audio CD you can rip them from the cd to mp3 so you have them on your CD and computer. if you need any help i don't mind helping you with the process

 

Napster has this thing figured out. They've made it so that the files aren't recognized as audio files, so I'm burning a data CD onto a RW disc, and when it's done, I'm going to try it in my stereo.

you will have to burn it using windows media player, just make a play list a burn it,

 

But with Windows media you may have to first in the settings turn off the copy protection thst has an on & off switch ?

 

For future reference, you may want to consider moving over to iTunes.

No monthly subscription, 99 cents per song and you can burn it to CD, transfer it, however you may like.

By far the least intrusive copyright rules of any music download service.

I cough use walmart music downloads...... .88 per song
I got Pink Floyd O plenty from them and you can burn to CD to take with you.

Napster has sucked since Lars ruined it.
